Darnell Washington in the 2nd?

I’m the opposite, thinking there will be a better TE than WR available. But I don’t know much about the WR group. Who are you hoping to be available?

This is where I'm at as well. To me, a good TE>WR for a rookie QB. Also, in this draft we should be able to get a premier TE at 39 vs a 2nd or 3rd tier WR. They will need to target a WR in the 3rd or 4th with upside, as well as get a FA WR.

In fact, Washington was ranked 4th on PFF's big board (I disagree--he is the second or third best TE in this draft--nasty man)  and there is another TE who could be considered in the second round:

50. TE Sam LaPorta, Iowa

LaPorta put on a show that will give GMs a lot to think about early on Day 2. He ran a 4.59-second 40 and put up a 6.91 three cone to hit the receiver daily double. Big, fast, and able to change directions is kind of the definition of tight end play.

LaPorta is a fabulous consolation prize if we whiff on the top three.  How can you lose with any of these four?

I see Washington as a player who could do both--he was emerging as a route runner and he has hands.  I dunno if he will be the player he was at Ga in the NFL--I think he has AR-15ish upside as a TE--we shall see.  I agree that a TE might fall to the third, but not one that would be better than what we have---but there are literally dozens of ways to approach our needs---I am sure they will do the right thing--but I would rather have an A list TE than a B list WR--we need to think beyond 2023 as much as possible.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
