How much should Bryce play in the preseason?

Corral should get most of the snaps, bryce should get 1 or 2 series one game and 1 half one game.

I agree.  If Bryce looks comfortable in the offense this seems the best way to handle it.  If he looks shaky then give him more snaps.

In our final game of the season last year he lost to Darnold who finished the game with one of the ten worst passer ratings of all time. Pretty sure we already know the answer to that.

To be fair, Dalton wasn't asked to do anything in that game but still had a TD and no turnovers. They had multiple FGs blocked/missed and 4th down failures in our territory. It was a meaningless game for both teams and played like it. Dalton was not good last year but there multiple other starters worse than him. He actually somehow had the 9th highest passer rating in the league last year. He's a high end backup at this point in his career.

You could call Darnold a high end backup too. Still don't want to see Dalton playing any meaningful amount of time here. If we're to the point where that's under any level of consideration we're doomed. In the meantime if it were up to me I would be giving Young and Corral the first and second team snaps through camp and preseason.

I think that is pretty much the consensus. Give Bryce all the 1s he needs. If he's the only 1 taking reps with the 1s, so be it. I know that's probably not how it will work, it's just to make a point. But Matt needs all the 1s and 2s he can handle. We absolutely need to find out where he's at football wise.

Corral is the wildcard in all this. Trying to get Bryce prepared, and still get Matt meaningful reps. Franks got a lot riding on how this all turns out. Fun times.

QBs don't play against each other.

Yet, he easily outplayed Darnold in that game. It wasn't close.

First half of first 2 games. Maybe one series in game 3.

This sounds about right to me. And any time he's out, play Corral. At this point in his career, Dalton has nothing to prove, ands I'd rather see him on the sideline glued to Young. He's got a lot to teach him, he's always been smart AF, he just gets the yips in post season.

If I were running things and I know people here are glad I’m not but…

I would start Dalton in the regular season. The first couple of games are crapshoots to start with. #1 is the old 4th preseason game and they play like it is preseason.
#2 is the old 1st regular season game, where all bets are off as it is only the first game. Upside down stuff always happens the first week, If you have seen enough seasons you know this.

Okay keep Bryce Young or any other rookie QB I have, out of those games. Try to steal one with the vet at QB while the team develops.

The OL needs to gel at game speed. Ditto for every other unit. We have totally new coaching even for many returning players. A new defense. Let them gel some and then put the kid in so he will have a better acclimated situation to step into.
That is what I would do. I doubt they do that.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
