I know the coaches really like him and are willing to be patient. He's a defensive project like Darnell Washington is an offensive project.

I saw some video of him from fan fest where he's watching the 1's do a DL drill and he's standing closely to them, lining up and mimicking to practice the rep while watching. That's a good sign.

It does sound like he's being out performed by UDFA Eku Leota and FA Kobe Jones, though.

You shouldn't expect much out of a 5th round project pick as we've all learned countless times.

Just asking. I know he’s a project but there have to be some flashes in camp to show potential. Anything?

All I got on him is this- hes playing at 2 year level on. Not a rookie cause he spent 6 years in college. He knows how to use his time on and off-field. Got a grown man build and is doing great in his first off-season. Still need to wait on results, but those fluff reports are looking good at the early stages.

Please dont worry about him.

Meanwhile this guy was still available.

It could be the reason he was still around at that point was that he didn't exactly give off a good impression from the moment he landed and through the whole time he met with the team....or maybe it was just us that happened to.

Not a 5th. A mid-3rd rounder. We traded a 3rd and a 4th to move up to get him.

A 5th would've been understandable and I doubt you'd be seeing this thread if he was a 5th.

Defense isn't getting much attention overall and the only thing local coverage looks at is pass rush. As Evero stated he's looking for Johnson to set the edge first. That's not going to watched by camp media.

Patience

Your Washington clip was an extended draft crush moment. It’s over bro he ain’t coming. He’s also got degenerative knees and a poo attitude. Last guy out of UGA with Degenerative knee tissue just retired this week after 5 years of meh

He's a project. I don't prefer drafting projects in the 3rd, especially trading up for em. But we'll see.

TE wasn't a need with Hurst, Thomas and Tommy.

Edge was (still is). Panic move, but it is what it is and we'll just have to see if he starts clicking in year 2. This year will be a bench year for him. Maybe even a mystery injury trip to the IR, as the two undrafted edges seem to be making more initial noise.

It was basically a Hurney move. Fitterer hasn't established the Hurney track record so I can forgive him for whiffing(if he does) on a guy like Johnson. You just don't want to see that offseason after offseason like Hurney was known for.

When we trade away so much draft capital, we can’t afford to draft prospects, let alone trade up for them

    • I mean, I think you're being a little hyperbolic with the last statement, but point taken.
    • Pass rush was the biggest issue in tonight’s game, and we were tied for 28th in sacks this season. That is a major area of need that has to get addressed this offseason. I just don’t see a path where there’s a game changing QB you can bring in with where we are drafting and quality of veterans that will be available. We certainly can do better than Dalton as a backup, and should ideally have a developmental guy  (perhaps a day 3 pick this year). We have bryce for one more year on a reasonable contract and then I think 2027 is the year that you reset that position (unless he massively improves).
    • Agreed, honestly basically bringing this group back as a healthy unit would be alright.  Brady Christensen should be resigned to a very reasonable deal with him recovering from the Achilles.  Atleast we're alright at 4 of our 5 spots with Lewis, Mays, Hunt, and Moton, Nijman was decent.  While if we can snag a deal on someone, take a stab, however our resources need to go to Linebacker, Pass Rush and a real option outside Tmac (coker is amazing, but if we can get someone who isnt braindead opposite Tmac, we can fully unleash Coker AND Tmacs full potential, cant move him into the slot if racoon boy is out there licking doorknobs).
