Got Bryce's PFF Stats Thus Far

He improved a little but overall its underwhelming across the board here. Main things that stick out to me is he hasnt thrown for 300 yards in any game yet and only threw more than 1 TD in one contest thus far, and a 5.3 yard per pass attempt is comical. The overall fumble rating is super low.

Im looking forward to looking at this stuff at the end of the season having a larger sample size and hopefully seeing some long strides.

Glad you are posting this now given the change in playcalling. I am hoping Brown calling plays will make an impact so it will be interesting to revisit. It does look like he is improving but it is still pretty dismal. Basically went from being utter trash to maybe being recycling if you rinse it off.

I've said it before and people have given me a hard time for it, but to me it's really encouraging to see week over week growth. Throwing Bryce out of the picture real quick, I can't imagine the offense could be worse after the bye with Brown taking over and Corbett back, and our schedule being heavily front loaded with better teams so it's encouraging to me.

Speaking of: Aaron Duncan of Unnecessary Bluntness made an interesting video breaking down some of Brown's calls from the preseason with Matt Corral:

I gave it a listen while taking my dogs for a walk this morning.   We could see more motion and play action which will have a big time impact on Bryce.  We are one of the lowest play action and motion teams in the NFL.  When you look at the top offenses, they use a LOT of motion and play action.  We aren't good enough to have a stand off player just beat you (most teams aren't).  You have to get the defense moving pre and post snap.

What will we see Sunday?  More of the 2nd half of preseason games?  More of what we've seen?  Something inbetween?

I dunno.

Brown was definitely getting Corral open looks, accuracy just wasn't there. Who knows how it will translate with starters vs 3rd string against other 3rd string guys. I'm sure other teams have watched the 2nd half of our preseason games, in hindsight we made it extremely easy for them to pick up on any of Browns tendencies so we might not even really get the advantage of having the opposing D in the dark for a few games like you normally would with a new play caller

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
