Panthers coach Dave Canales said rookie RB Jonathon Brooks (knee) may not be ready for the start of training camp. Canales also said Brooks has a ways to go before he is ready and the team will ease him into training camp. Brooks suffered a torn ACL late in his final season at Texas and is still recovering from the injury. Previous reports were optimistic that Brooks would be cleared by training camp, but Canales and the Panthers are now pumping the breaks. Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders are the next men up on Carolina’s depth chart. Hubbard proved far more effective than Sanders last year and would likely get the first crack at the starting gig if Brooks misses any time. -
That hitch thing is what I saw right off. (I called it a skip step, but it is more an extra move). When the lesser velocity of his ball is added to whatever slight delay that hitch triggers, you could be looking at measurable additional time for the ball to be at the target. Just a split second makes a difference at that level. That’s what he has to somehow resolve. By just great timing and anticipation, in the best case. But worse case, you have those balls slightly behind, they get defended or picked just by giving defenders that margin. That was my issue all along. There are plenty of things he can do well and, especially, the more open the targets can get the more margin he can use. It is just, harder for that guy than it would be for the same guy in a proto body.

Sanders sucks and Chuba is on the last year of his contract and has shown to be a mid-tier starting RB at best, best as a RB2. Brooks was their #1 rated RB and they got him in the middle of the 2nd. I liked Benson better personally but It makes sense.
