What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?

It’s a ploy to flush out all the whinny Karen’s in the fan base

Right, the worst team in the NFL last year and over the last 5 years has nothing to whine about watching their team bench starters in the preseason while the best teams in the NFL have no problem playing their starters. What a world. This fanbase is as garbage as the team is

It takes a special mind to remain unquestionably loyal to every decision this team makes.  Anyone with a semblance of awareness has been shaken out of that.

Tep move?

I don’t think I’ve once heard him speak about the defense, by all accounts, things look positive.

We know he is very invested in the offense and last week was straight embarrassing. This amateur hour crap isn’t one you expect to see from even brand new NFL coaches.

This is blood in the water. Now for the first few games it is GUARANTEED open season.

Only rational explanation is that they’re putting off showing how bad they are as long as they possibly can.

This. You think the new coaching staff is ready to hear the cries to bench QB1? He’ll need QB1 to use as an excuse mid season when we’re a 1 win team.

hes practiced against the jets all week, exactly what else is he going to show in a few series in a preseason game against them?

He practiced against the Jets one day, and only practiced three times all week.  That’s a far cry from your statement.

On what planet does the worst team in the NFL the previous season and over the last 5 years think it’s a good idea to bench starters for all preseason games?

The best teams in the NFL are playing their starters for at least a few drives. But the Panthers are on their 3rd coaching staff in the last 3 years, talking up a “great practice” against the Jets on Thursday as reason to bench starters for preseason games.

I thought the Panthers employed NFL professionals who understood practice reps are not the same as game reps but maybe I am wrong. The Panthers were a dumpster fire in preseason last season so maybe they’re trying to avoid tanking ticket sales worse than they already are or they are intentionally tanking, but who knows.

I mean you kind of answered yourself. Panthers starters played last preseason and how much difference did it make? Still the worst team in football. Maybe preseason doesn't matter. If you're going to be terrible you're going to be terrible nothing about running vanilla schemes and half ass game plans in the preseason for 20 total plays is going to make any sort of difference

    • Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.
    • I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football
    • I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
