Darin Gantt notices a very good sign in the lockeroom

Changing the culture was always going to be the hard part.  Usually the wins have to come first, but this is a sign that they’re truly buying in and that’s nothing to scoff at.

This could be a much bigger deal than most are willing to admit.  Maybe, just maybe, the darkest days are behind us.

THIS is the stuff that goes unnoticed by "fans" who don't understand how to build a team and build a culture.  You can't just buy it.  Not many teams have won consistently by free agency alone.  Remember the Philadelphia "dream team"?  How many time have the Dolphins won the free agency Olympics?  Pats, Chiefs, Bills, Lions, 49'ers all have built culture through drafting THEN selective free agency signings.

Remember when a few weeks ago the tankers were fuming that we were winning games? "CuLtUrE dOeSn'T mAtTeR!!! mUh DrAfT pIcKs!!!!"

It's a good sign for sure. I'm not sure the darkest days are over just yet.  But maybe, just maybe this is the beginning of something to build on that has grown organically from within. Only time will tell.

I think starting from the bottom of the hole they were in last year and climbing their way out the way they are together is what is going to be creating a winning culture.

Tough times come, but when you start out in the tough times you'll better understand how to navigate every other time together.

This struggle is the bonding experience needed to become a team that will be damn near impossible to beat.

People talked about Bryce (re)gaining confidence, but the team needs confidence in itself as well. Going toe to toe with the best teams the past few weeks have increased morale and confidence that the players have what it takes. Self-efficacy goes a long ways. I think this is what Canales and Morgan were wanting to create by building around dawgs who continue to scratch, claw, bite, POUND no matter the circumstances because they know they can defeat the opponent no matter the odds. Heck I even see this happening in our defense and it’s been ravaged by injuries this year, yet they continue to fight and not allow opponents to currently score at will as in past weeks.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
