Chargers 90-in-90: DT Jerrod Clark - Bolts From The Blue

Jerrod Clark, 25, originally signed on with the LA Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Coastal Carolina in 2023. He was among Los Angeles’ final roster cuts as a rookie and re-signed to their practice squad. The Chargers signed him to a futures deal in January of last year but was among their final roster cuts, once again. He recently caught on with the UFL’s Arlington Renegades.

Having watched Jerrod play against App State several times and just take two and three bodies and anchor them to the field, I like this signing a lot.

keep in mind that over the years that Jerrod played against App, I think App ended up with 3 or 4 offensive lineman in the NFL.

When I read the title I figured a Huddler finally got their shot.

Im about 99.876% sure no active huddler member has done a bigger woman than me. She honestly wasn't that fat, like rolley......she was a Scottish powerlifter with the goal of breaking the woman's deadlift record. She had pictures with NC legend Johnny Perry and all sorts of medals and trophys. After a hard boozen night, she offered me some home made haggis and I didn't know she wanted desert... True story

Weren’t folks just saying Evero’s scheme uses undersized NT’s?

That’s what I read everywhere, from every reporter and based on history. Would be great of he went to a giant NT, but I think this player in particular is a practice squad one.

Just to add to this unnessary thread. I thought Marquan McCall was a legit breakout player when evero took over, he has a great NT build. The team kept him on the squad for a whole year and I thought it would click once evero became DC. I even thought he would be the starting NT in 2023, I overrated the hell out of him.... Last I seen he's bouncing around the league on PS...

You can’t tell me McCall couldn’t have contributed this past year

Is being 340 lbs his best qualification?

I know a guy who is 340+. He can't touch his toes or walk up a hill. Without athletic ability, it doesn't mean sh#t.

IDK, DJ Jones measured 6'0" 5/8 and 319lb pounds at his combine. No idea whether the more recent team measurements that are around 305 are more up-to-date. But it seems like he's used a traditional run-stuffer who plays with leverage and doesn't get moved out of gaps. Not a smaller, penetrating guy.

Now, that doesn't mean that bigger guy = better. Everyone's salivating over Deone Walker, but being 6'7" means you're going to have a hard time in the leverage battles. But if a big guy is hard to move, then he's going to be Evero's type.

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
