Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list

False logic.

The Falcons taking a QB has nothing to do with Matt Ryan coming back.  He was always coming back.  It has everything to do with the fact that Matt Ryan is 36.  It has everything to do with the quality of the QB class and where they are picking within that class.

There is no scenario where we draft at eight and less than four QB's are off the board before we do.

Sure there is.  Smoke and mirrors and you guys are taking hook, line and sinker.  Teams are talking up QBs to hopefully get some team--see Panthers-- to trade up in order to get the QB that certainly will not be there.  I'm talking Jets, Falcons, Eagles and Lions.  At TWO of them take a QB,  and I'm hedging just one.  I've said it once and I'll say it again, QB4 will ABSOLUTELY be there at #8.  Whether it is Fields or Lance, I'm not sure, but one of the two.

Atlanta is in cap hell and they have huge needs on defense and the OL.  QB is decent and they can't get out of his contract.  It makes no logical sense to take a QB this year.  It makes perfect sense to trade back, get some additional picks that can replace the bigger contracts, do some cutting, and get a QB in 2022 or 2023.  Getting a QB to sit the bench in 2021 is not the right move, IMO

Agreed completely. Drafting a QB, despite being such a high pick this year, basically makes the end of the Matt Ryan/Julio Jones run a lame duck approach.  That "end" might not just be next year, either.  Contract wise, honestly Julio and Ryan could be there 2 more years.

Their best move is to draft defense and OL like you said, hope the new coach brings magic year one, and try making the playoffs next year with a well-rounded team. Spending a 1st rounder on a QB basically tells Ryan and Julio thanks for all those fun times, but you're never winning here again. Collect some checks until we trade you in a year or two.

yeah exactly. zero chance atlanta burns the 4 pick for this scenario. they may trade back but they won't go qb.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
