If Darnold plays poorly next year, we traded what will be a 1st round pick for him.

How does 2nd rounder 1 year out = 1st round pick?  I get the point that if we are the worst team, it will be the 33rd overall pick.  But, there is a time value associated with these picks you know.

Agreed, I really dislike the argument of “it’s basically a first round pick” and then calling a second a first, just because it’s high in the second round. I get draft value, a lot of the prospects around there are similar, but it’s still a second rounder.  That’s why they have different rounds and not just one massive chucklefug round of drafting.

Also a pet peeve, when someone says SF gave up 3 firsts to move up to number 3 overall.  No, they gave up 2 firsts.  They still have a first round pick this year and did not lose 3 total firsts.  That bugs the hell out of me when people talk about trading.  Always used to make a trade sound worse than it is.  Nobody asked but I wanted to vent 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn't want Darnold, but... let's just. let. this. thing. play. out.

Good or bad move, time will tell.

You realize that if he throws a bad pass in his very first series with us in the preseason, people will be declaring that he's a bust and they knew it and they don't need to see anymore, right?

But they literally did give up three first round picks. Now granted they got a first round pick back, but how else would you possibly word it?

“They gave up two first round picks”

Edit:to me, “giving up” means total loss. I guess that’s where the difference is

Teddy was mediocre, but a competent game manager with good skill players.  Darnold has bee a complete dumpster fire, and you don't win more than 4 games with him unless he improves tremendously.

I think if Darnold improves quite a bit he could get us to 6 wins...possible.

    • ^ Can’t believe this dude doesn’t want to bring up QB play into the picture but doesn’t seem to remember DJ Moore being wide open in the end zone running to the left and Teddy B outright missing him to the point DJ had to jump and spin to try and catch a TD pass from 4 yards away and got hurt. When speaking of WRs you should absolutely also consider who the QB is.  As far as Moore being labeled great anywhere else… sure the Huddle is the only place you will find those references if this is the only place you come to. People on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit also talk about him being great and being held back by awful QB play.    There is no way you live in this much of a bubble that you believe what you just wrote.
    • This is my mock version 3.0 for week 3 leading up to the draft.  This is the one I personally would like to see happen, not what I think will happen.  That one will be next week and my final mock for this thread. #8- QB Trey Lance-NDSU: (He slips past the 9ers and Falcons; nobody moves up, so we take him) #44 *TRADE w/ Dallas* G/C Quinn Mieinerz-UW-Whitwater: (Randunz and Cosmi are gone and a run on corners leave a void in value--we trade back to recoup the loss of our 4th next year) #73- LT Brady Christensen BYU (LT needy teams have already pounced, so we get our LT here) #113- CB Robert Rochell-Central Arkansas #138*Dallas*- CB Marco Wilson-Florida #151-DT Bobby Brown(1-tech)-Texas A&M #193- DT Cameron Sample- (3-tech) Tulane #222- DE Elerson Smith- Northern Iowa Got the QB, LT and center with needed depth on the D-line and corner.  This would make me very happy with our draft!
    • I don’t really believe them either. Those are my reasons why I believe it’s possible. Chris Simms played for Shanahan and is friends so I think he knows his type better than most. Doesn’t mean he’s right but it’s possible. Go look through his QBs and they sort of scream Jones but again I think talent wise he’s way below Fields which is why I don’t really believe it. Maybe it’s the thought that 8 is a lot more valuable if Jones goes 3. More of I really hope SF wants Jones.
