I'm trying to remember the last player who actually held out and missed getting paid for a season?

Bell

Yeah that was an epic disaster 🙅‍♂️

Emmitt Smith successfully executed the "holdout" strategy 28 years ago but I can't think of anyone who has done so in the last decade plus.

These days the lost economics associated with actually missing games are so massive I just don't see the "holdout" as a risk with Moton whatsoever.

^ 100%

The panthers have all the leverage in this situation.  My brain says that this deal gets done by the deadline, probably for a bit more than they would like to pay him but it gets done.  With the cap going up in the next few seasons it probably makes sense to overpay him slightly now.

I don't like this.  Moton is a very smart man and a hell of asset to this team.  I would hate to lose him over a couple million extra guaranteed money in the contract.  Must be that or the length of the contract they are dickering over.  I'm on Morons side of this if you can't tell.

We aren't going to lose him. Hell, we can even tag him again next year if we have to.

IMO, this is largely about LT or RT. I have a feeling the Panthers want to pay him as a RT and then play him at LT. Moton's agent probably isn't an idiot and sees right through that.

Moton has always been hesitant to move to LT, now he wants top LT money. I want to keep him, but not if it keeps us from affording an elite LT in the near future.

You have a source for that statement?

I hope the Panthers have learned NOT to do that ala Norman and Peppers. Maybe BB.

In that scenario (where he won’t be resigned and he isn’t the piece away from a SB and he has value) tagging and trading is much much more lucrative than having him play.

I’d rather have a first round pick than a year of Moton. Hell we got a half of a season of a half assed Peppers when we could’ve easily had multiple first round picks.

If he isn’t going to be here let’s get something out of it.

No, just conjecture on my part since we can’t seem to get a deal done.

That's a problem here.  People saying things about people that they just make up. Next person takes it as truth  and....

I would expect these negotiations to go down to the wire.  Moton wants as much as he can get...(who wouldn't) and Fitterer is working the cap. Complicating things is that they may also be negotiating position.  But we do not know that for sure.

This is not the same ownership and Front Office that we are used to here.  I  am not making any judgements yet and I am going to trust that Fitt  has a plan.

    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
    • I hear you but yeah like you say, above average. His numbers were good. You’d think it would be a no brainer. Anyhow… I guess the new staff is also fine with him walking?    I hope if we sign him there isn’t some secret issue of his that led to him not being valued.
