Carolina Panthers are STILL interested in Deshaun Watson

Per a league source, the Panthers quietly are keeping an eye on Watson. Yes, they traded for Sam Darnold and picked up his 2022 option. Owner David Tepper nevertheless is committed to finding a long-term franchise quarterback. Watson has the skill to become that guy, and Tepper — who made his money buying low and selling high — could be inclined to make a move if Watson’s contract can be secured at a reasonable amount.

For the Texans, the question becomes whether they’ll be willing to simply do the best deal they can and be done with it. Although G.M. Nick Caserio is, as one source recently explained it, concerned about making a trade that will look in hindsight like he’d been fleeced, there aren’t many clear alternatives to removing Watson, who’s currently the fourth-stringer on the depth chart, and his $45 million in salary over the next two years. Someone higher in the Houston organization could insist on unloading Watson’s contract for whatever Caserio can get.

By all appearances, the Texans are ready to move on from Watson. That attitude necessarily makes it much harder to get a huge return, especially with the pending legal problems.

I personally can't imagine the Panthers giving up very much if anything at all to obtain Watson at this point. I am very suspicious of this "league source". Isd it the same guy that said Tepper would trade away the house and farm before the draft? Because I still haven't seen THAT Tepper yet. The one I've seen stays out of football decisions.

Pretty much.

We've seen so many "David Tepper will do this", "David Tepper will do that", "David Tepper will pay any price", "David Tepper will move any mountain", etc. etc. type ramblings that we could probably start a Chuck Norris style website called davetepperfacts.com (and be equally true to life as the Norris one) 🙄

Yet in reality Rhule, Fitterer, Gantt and even Tepper himself have confirmed that he doesn't influence personnel decisions at all. His only input is on the processes used. And if you needed further proof, you saw it play out that way at the Draft on Panthers Confidential as well.

That's why at this point, any suggestion that starts with "well, David Tepper" is one that I automatically discount as sheer (and uninformed) speculation.

The fact that it looks like the Huddle does not want him now pretty much cements that he will be coming to Charlotte.  (For the record - I to don't want him.  At this point we need to see what we have in Sam and reevaluate in February).
