Carter is perfectly fine as a starting LB for a team that desperately needs 3 OL starters, a starting QB, a backup QB, and has very few draft picks in the next draft.

Remember to ask yourself when considering the priority that should be given to upgrades of players who are okay but nothing special:

How important is the position they play to winning relative to our other needs?

Good backup/marginal starter type. As long as we can retain him with a contract reflecting that we probably should. Gotta remember, we're way short on draft capital this year and a definite upgrade probably wouldn't come cheap via FA. You're not going to have All-Pros at every position. You're gonna have to make do with some JAGs and LB is a good place to hide a JAG on your defense.

      Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....

      I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.

      We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
