Was Rhule forced by Tepper to hire experienced coaches?

I’ve heard on WFNZ a couple times that Rhule hired experienced NFL guys only after Tepper forced him to do it. If true this would mean that Rhule didn’t learn from his mistakes, he just did what the owner demanded he do.

Also, is this considered meddling on the part of Tepper and if so are you guys ok with it. Remember it was Tepper who forced Ron to switch to a 3-4 defense.

That 3-4 foolishness needs to stop.

Hiring a guy you have to micromanage into doing his job is insanity.

Suck it up and fire the dude buttercup.

How do you know you've hired the wrong guy as HC?  When (two years into his contract) you have to educate him on what qualifications to look for when hiring a coaching staff.

If Tepper told him to hire NFL experienced coaches then that is a positive.

See first post for the correct answer.

Any owner that has to direct his HC to fire his hand picked assistants (and hire experienced NFL coaches) has the wrong HC.

Whatever it takes, as long as it's happening. Wouldn't surprise me.

The question has to asked, just like it was asked about Rivera. If the coach needs to be told how to coach, what's the point of keeping the coach?

Just go ahead and get someone who can do the job without being told what to do and how to do it.

From what I hear, yes he was. This was part of the terms of him being retained another year.

I think it will help. At least now they have people who know how pro practices are run.

Is that not ridiculous though that the owner has to do that? Also, sadly I hear Tepper is involved in player evaluations as well and he has zero clue as to what he is talking about. It's not a good recipe. He is so addicted to getting a QB he is screwing our future. We are likely to trade for Wentz or Jimmy G because he cant help himself to wait a year and get Bryce Young/Cj Stroud. We will likely be in this same situation next year. Let's hope we don't trade away our #1 pick and ruin our cap for another trash QB.

    • That should have been this year. Tough to sell to anyone worth getting when this crew is going into year 3 on the hot seat. I still think keeping Evero will sink them all after last year's showing. If/when he is scapegoated they need to show improvement or it's likely to be so eone else's problem next year. I do agree in principle tho, it all should have happened after last year's problems.
    • I've listened to some things that have calmed the "Bryce was flat out terrible" to just "he was really bad" in Week 1. It's Year 3 though, and that shouldn't be the barometer. I've got 1% hope left for Bryce, and that's just blind homerism coming out.  I'm scared that as much emphasis as the team places on advanced stats and PFF that the team *doesn't* think Bryce was that bad in Week 1. Couple that with so many of the QBs in the league looking rough, offense being down in general, and I feel like there's a lot of "what if's" going on in the building instead of facing the music.  Lose Week 2, and we should switch the main focus back to building/churning the roster, evaluating young guys, and hoping our next QB can have a Jayden Daniels level of impact. As we're all well too aware of, QB is a crapshoot a lot of the time. Admit we made a bad pick, and go draft another. And another. Repeat until correct.
    • I wouldn't want any of those starting as a rookie on day 1.  That said, we need a vet, that is not Andy Dalton, that can be the starter while a prospect grows and learns on the sidelines.
