Watson Watch Day 4 - The Finale

OK, say we sign Watson and lose our pass rush (Reddick gone, Burns in trade)---we have 1 decent (free agent) safety (Chinn in trade) and a weakened run defense (Jones in Buffalo).  That will degrade the corners, exposing Henderson and Taylor--and Horn at times.  I am guessing the defense would fall to the middle of the pack at best.   At LT we will have BC, at LG we will have ????? , at C we have Elflien, at RG and RT we have good players.  We would have little cap room to upgrade, and in this year's draft, we have a fourth rounder and two fifths.  Next year, our first pick is in the third round.  The following year?  Third round.

That means we'd have to build through free agency---not the recipe one needs when the QB is taking in 14% of the cap.

And he is a sex offender, convicted or not.  If cheering for him does not bother you a little, your priorities are a bit off.

While the idea of Watson intrigues me if we could add an offensive lineman, the upgrade on offense is likely to be offset by the downgraded defense.  So yeah, I would like to see Watson come here, but I also see why it would take something more than 1 QB to make us a winner.

Oh no, losing a 26 year old QB for six games and then only having him for 9.67 years instead of 10. What ever will we do?

It’s obvious at this point Carolina isn’t his first choice.  Bold of you to assume he doesn’t walk in FA in three years if we were to trade for him

i hope the saints or falcons land him. Some people may be cool being the last resort option of a likely predator but I’m good.

Franchise QBs don't hit FA. Agents make those deals happen.

This decision isn't only up to DW... The Texans have a lot to say about it... FYI

22 months pursuing a player, staying involved during a massive sex pest scandal, going out of their way to signal they’d do anything and trade anyone to acquire him, then him just blowing you off at the 11th hour for a team without wife receivers or a team that waved a wand to create cap space.

Incredible. fuging incredible.

Curious what you think would have made the difference.

For the people in the back!

Watson is waiting on Atlanta to see if they can trade Matt Ryan somewhere. Probably to the Colts.

If Atlanta is out, Panthers DO stand a chance if it’s just them and the Saints. Might be a bidding war. Best case scenario if they don’t land Watson is the Saints end up having to pay more for him.

where are you getting your info? I appreciate you sharing, as always. Same person you were texting?

    • I am gonna believe it wasn’t us if the 4th round pick price is accurate. We needed 225 points to get from 19 to their pick. 875 at 19 to 1100 at 14.  Our 2026 4th was valued at 56 points I think. A future 4th has less value. So that wasn’t close to enough.    It would have taken our third and our fourth. Comes within a point of even.    Now, moving to their spot in the second round we could have done but after Miami took Rodriguez why would we?
    • Yep,and Blake Miller have had more experiences than Freeling,Lions did not sigh a vet T like Walker,so they had to pick Miller.
    • I mean it's expected.  This is the NBA.  And they hate the Charlotte Hornets.  Flagg was also the guy "magically" given to the Mavs who lost Luca to the wildly popular Lakers.  Was always an uphill battle.  But the award is BS since it's not voted on before play-in starts. Kon probably lost because of the play-in as many people switched votes.  It was a regular season award, so this is some nonsense.  Kon also didn't have the luxury of taking 10 games off to rest up injuries like Flagg did.  If he did, he wouldn't have been nursing his back the last month.  I mean, screw him for being on an actual playoff team that matters.  Flagg took tons of shots a game, he was wildly inefficient.  Kon was a huge reason the Hornets made the play-in and turned the season around after Jan.   I think Flagg will probably be the better player long term, or at least the most impact.  But Kon should have won ROTY.
