Sounds Like Pure Speculation

Thomas' scouting report coming out of college stated he was extremely raw.  Now there's two possibilities or a combination of both.  Ian is uncoachable or our staff is unable to develop TEs.  Again, could be some of both.  That's the reason I didn't like the pick.  When I see the tag 'raw' on a scouting report, that gives me apprehension about the prospect.  Most prospects aren't NFL ready, but even close to ready still takes time to finish developing.  Prospects deemed raw takes too much time and mainly it's the mental side of the game that gets the label, not the physical attributes.

Y'all remember "Swole Bones?"  Dude had the physical attributes to be a beastly TE, but he could never pick up the nuances of the position.  Even though Ian has the measurables to be an effective TE in this League, something just isn't clicking with him.

I'd trade RA for a good TE in an heartbeat.  I honestly think we have players who can do what he does now.  Shenault, Smith, marshall (don't give up on him quite yet), Moore, Higgins, Roberts (WR/KR)--with Saunders and Wright on the PS---

and we add a weapon at TE

Im not ready to lose RA, but I can understand the counter argument to it. Time will tell.

I still am I RA guy, especially with a QB who can hit him consistently over the top now and allow him to play to his strengths, so I wouldn't want to trade him.  But if the FO is confident that a guy like TMJ can grow into a similar role/receiver, I could see them doing it.

One thing that doesn't make much sense to me about this rumor though...  wouldn't both teams have wanted to complete the deal before the 53-man roster cuts?  Now both would have to shuffle around pieces they wouldn't have had to prior, and would be prepping a guy for Week 1 that won't be a part of their long-term plans.  I know trades can and still do happen until mid-season, but just doesn't seem logistically sound if the structure of the trade is pretty much already in place to a the degree that it could be reported as "close."

Currently the 23rd paid TE by average salary. Whats head scratching about that? That's got to be as low a contract as it gets for a veteran signed this past year.

I think people heard about this salary being high  but never looked at it in detail or with context.

23rd in salary yes, but 62nd in yards last year.  He had TWICE the drop rate of Robbie last year.  He's not a horrible blocker, but he's nothing spectacular in the blocking department either.

He has no excuses this year.  Last few years you could put some blame on QB play.  Not this year.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
