We improved the staff, so WTF is going on?

I’m looking at our 2021 staff and comparing it to our 2022 staff, and this is one reason I was expecting an improved product on the field. Better, more experienced coaches should equal better play.

So why aren’t we seeing results so far? Are the players not as good as we thought or are the coaches being hamstrung by Rhule?

Cause we aren’t winning the turnover battle, we aren’t winning the 3rd down battle, and guys hit the fg they kicked from 50+ yards.

The team has looked completely unprepared for the first halves of both of the last two games. No one here can pinpoint exactly why because we’re not in those practices and not in that locker room day-in and out. That said, we can judge the result and it seems like sporadic talent is the only thing keeping this team competitive at this point. The game plans have been crazy limited. Not sure we even have a go to for third and long.

Which is strange because last year, we'd start fast and then be unable to do anything in the third quarter. This year our third quarter has been better, but we look horrible to start the game.

Here is the cold hard truth right here.

The offensive problems were not Joe Brady's fault. That's why you see the same product on the field. We have pretty much ignored offense until this last season in areas where it matters. Mainly OL and TE. I know some will say TE isn't super important but for a New or Young QB it is. The OL should have been rebuilt day one and it's still not great. It will take another few years to really have a unit you can trust.

On the defensive side we have good players in almost every position. Coaching is the biggest problem there.

What DC looking that this roster goes yeah this unit will give up 20 points.

You have Burns, Luvu, Jackson, and Chinn that play at a high level.

That's all players you can build around. There is zero excuses on why this unit gives up so many 3rd and 4th down conversions except poor coaching.

We're like a week away from another players only meeting, and I wish it was one where all the players went to Tepper and asked him to fire Rhule

I think the players like and appreciate playing for Rhule. Rhule didn’t fail to stop Daniel Jones from running for a 1st on 3 and 6.

The staff was not improved. The new hires were actually guys who could not find other coaching jobs and really didn't have many suitors.

Right now, the biggest nightmare would be to find out that McAdoo and Wilks were brought in to be the replacements. And they could certainly be even worse head coaches. Their own histories point to that.

    • Velocity MPH. Okay, that’s a number in isolation. what if CJ has a nice 85% effort motion that does what he is looking for? And Young has to step into things to get even 2 mph behind him?  I don’t KNOW that about either it is just an example of numbers don’t always tell all, but when I look at Young throw it reminds me of someone like Fran Tarkenton. A throwback non athletic weak armed scrambler for those of you who don’t remember. Had a great career in the old smaller slower but much meaner NFL. Would not today, IMO.  I think the arm strength questions, are plenty fair. And the eyeball test, it does mean something. Who would take Bryce Young over CJ Stroud or Richardson based on his arm? It is obvious to the naked eye where they stack up.
    • Jarvis gets the first and the game winner!
    • Somehow win tonight and this series has a good chance to go 7 where anything can happen. will be an extremely tough test tonight though, probably the toughest game of the entire Rod era. Personally I'd go with Koochie but it'll prob be Freddie. Expecting a loss tonight so I don't get upset if it happens, but if we did somehow do the impossible and reverse sweep these fugers it'll be the happiest I've been about sports maybe ever (wasn't following the canes closely for our cup win otherwise that's obviously #1). Making the SB in '15 is up there right now but this could surpass that, especially if we can continue the run into the cup finals
