ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports "some" within the Panthers organization want Sam Darnold to get a chance to start

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports "some" within the Panthers organization want Sam Darnold to get a chance to start in 2022.

Darnold missed most of the season's first half a serious ankle injury. He's reportedly fully healthy but not part of the team's starting QB conversation as P.J. Walker and Baker Mayfield takes turns being terrible. Darnold, one of the NFL's worst quarterbacks by any measure in 2021, could wind up starting a meaningless late-season game for the most down-bad franchise in pro sports.

The stadium is empty enough. I think what few fans do bother to show up to games will take a pass if they hear Sam will be stating again. On the other hand we're paying him well over 18 million dollars to practice and wear a headset. He's listening the plays coming in on gameday and earning $18,000,000. He was evaluated at being worth that kind of money by Fitt, unless you think Rhule is responsible for that as well, so we should put Sam out there and see that Fitt magic.

Honestly who the hell cares enough in that building to make a big deal over which of our xfl level QBs start?

People that should not be here employed when we draft a new QB that is who.

Just rotate the garbage and make it through the year. These are probably the same people that said Sam was basically a rookie last year lol.

I have no issue with that.  We've got to make a choice on whom we keep.  The only fair way is to work all 3 quarter backs.  In my opinion we've seen PJ enough to make a comparison between him and the others.  I would just let Baker and Sam battle the rest of the season out.

    • I'll be patiently waiting to see what OL additions we snatch off the waiver wire.
    • Look don't get me wrong here. I'm not arguing it's going to just change his arm talent overnight. I'm just saying doing anything on the physical front after the GM who stuck his neck out for him over the concerns around his physical traits got fired is better than doing nothing. That's another layer. It could easily be argued overall he needed to add at least 10 pounds not just for the sake of working in the pocket and not going down so easily but let's be honest eventually no matter how much we invest in the OL he's going to get hit some and those hits will add up. His frame as it stands is only going to absorb so much over a 17 game season. Oh definitely good or bad we will have to run a lot of under center stuff. Bryce will either look good or flounder. But our offense will remain stagnant if we just keep running shotgun plays 90% of the time. You're telegraphing your offense otherwise. That's why I'm not giving Chuba Hubbard too hard of a time over his YPC last year. We weren't fooling anyone. We'll see what Canales has cooked up. It better be pretty damn clever.
    • Why would a team ever not be aggressive in improving the roster? It may look different from year to year but even the best rosters churn at the bottom. That's a no-brainer.
