Predictions: Panthers at Bucs

Man it is crazy.  It's been 4 years since we were even thinking playoffs last.

Nov 8th 2018, we're a red hot 6-2 the morning before the ill-fated Steelers game.  Cam & Luke blazing, leading the charge. That was the last time we had playoffs in mind.  Really hope we can get it done, it's been too damn long.  We need something going here.

We will lose.

I know we will because I have hope. Any opportunity for us to do something convincing, we have squandered.

We had the opportunity to take the lead in the Division outright against the Mariota-led Falcons. We blew it.

We had a chance to pull even with TB against the floundering Steelers. We blew it.

We have a chance to win this weekend and take command of the South. We will blow it.

Brady is a star, this is his swan song, and the league loves to use the Panthers to let a star go out on a high note. I have no confidence that we can win a game that we have no reasonable excuse for losing.

There. Now my expectations are on the floor, where they actually belong. And I'm setting myself up to be pleasantly surprised.

I whole heartedly agree. In the past 2-3 years it's not like we've had many opportunities to do something cool or fun, but when those opportunities have presented themselves we have squandered them. WFT game last year. Atlanta this year. Pittsburgh this year. Anytime the team sets themselves up for a game of mild importance/magnitude, they blow it. For that reason I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, because I feel like we know how this ends.

For this game in particular it is of grave importance we never go down. I am almost 100% sure we have not won a game this year where we are ever losing at any point, even like a 3-0 deficit. I know the wave now is deferring to the second half, but if we win the opening toss I almost say you take the ball and try to immediately establish your game. If we can't run we have no chance of winning anyways. When Darnold has been okay for us, it's been when the team is playing with a lead. He is not capable of leading a team from behind. I feel as if that's when he panics and forces poo that is not there.

It's really pretty simple. If we can run the ball I like our chances. If we can't, we're more or less hopeless. I don't fear Brady's arm like I would 5 years ago. Of course he can still be dangerous, and they have a lethal pair of WR's going against a  battered secondary. Gun to my head I think Tampa Bay has the edge here, but it's incredibly thin. But I see more avenues for them to win this game than I do for us.

I'll say 20-16 Bucs, but I want nothing more than to be wrong.

    • CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep. You start thinking about your plan, taking care of your body, making sure you get your rest.''   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45880676/panthers-starters-play-first-2-preseason-games-says-coach
    • You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
