Wilks Set This Team Back

Recommended Posts

Had we hung on to The Process to secure probably a #3-5 draft pick (I doubt we were outsucking the Texans or Bears, probably not the Broncos or Cardinals, either), we would be a friggin mess right now of epic proportions.  We honestly would probably be about to hire a Wilks/Rivera type coach just to stop the bleeding.

Man, some of y'all are just laying all the blame at Steve Wilks feet like he spent the past three seasons setting this up.  Also, Steve didn't make the trade decisions.  Why would the INTERM coach do that?  How is Steve Wilks to blame for SF playing well and lowering the value of those picks?  How is Wilks responsible for Horn's injury?  I mean, the timing sucked, but so does the timing of all injuries in the NFL.  Save a lot of your vitriol for Scott Fitterer.

Perspective: when was the last time you cared about late season Panthers football?  2017?  It's been a good ride here.  I'd rather win than lose because a few draft slots are pretty meaningless.  Look, if we find THE GLORIOUS QB-SAVIOR, we can trade up for him.  Duh.  That's what teams do.

Given the drafting pedigree of this team, would you rather have Brian Burns or 2-4 players who will not be as good as he is now?  This year, the Rams suck so that traded draft pick is looking good.  What about in 24-25?  I think the Rams bounce back.  Look at what happened when they put Baker in there?  So at best I imagine those picks are middle first round, or later if they go back to the playoffs.

I don't know what's going on in David Tepper's brain.  I don't know who the next coach will be.  I like that Wilks brought organization, toughness, and heart to the team.  He was the anti-Rhule and it showed.  Sunday versus the Saints will be what it will be.  I know the team will try to win, and I'm fine with that.

Some of y'all live in a Madden/Fantasy Football world.

And that's what we needed :  an Anti-Rhule type of coach.   Hopefully the next Head Coach is even better.

And interestingly enough, if Rhule wasn't fired and the team finished the way some of the "draft gurus" here wanted, that would be the end of Sam as an NFL player, let alone QB in the league 'cause he wouldn't have gotten the chance Wilks and MacAdoo gave him that put him in the position to salvage his career as it turned out.

Front office did everything in their power to tank as much as was possible by trading CMC after Rhule’s firing.

Wilks simply highlights how horrific Matt Rhule was a NFL HC.   Coaches and actual players aren’t going to tank and try to lose a game.

The idea that losing games to move up in the draft is the only way to win later is such a brain dead line of thinking.

the best qb in the game was drafted  10th overall by a team that went 12-4 the previous year and traded up to get him.

Always win.

No. David Tepper set this team back doing all the wrong things at the wrong time. Wrong coach. Kept him on too long. Fired him too early in the season.

I can't blame Steve Wilks for making the most of what was given to him and getting more out of our talent than the previous guy. He lost players and coaches all season... and got guys to perform and made US keep watching. It's amazing how well a group of guys can do under different leadership.

Winning against the Saints won't change our draft position much. Our strength of schedule is lower than any 7 win team so we pick before they do. We get a top 10 pick which will be 9th and we got to play meaningful games in December and January. Wilkes has done more for this franchise in 12 games than Rhule did since he got here. Anyone who see this as a setback has an agenda not based on facts.

    • Someone correct me- doesn't Dave have a six year contract??? I think Dan Morgan does as well..... that's the price you have to pay once you get a rep for firing HCs....
    • Brother re-check that guarantee...my page shows 30mill.....thats means he's staying in my book for at least til the end of 2026.  Im going to be my normal honest self, besides watching like half of the SB, I didn't know the guy. My guess is Panthers have a "planned model of paying players" and they almost had to spend a chunk of space on a DLman after Dbrown injury season gave them a nightmare out-come of worst D in NFL scoring. Once Milton got above Dbrown payments, they went with the plan B. A player whom the "co-GM" put his name with. Brad said turk would not be a problem off-field and leader, which the Panthers need badly. I dug in with the google-fu, I found out  I also found him playing lots of NT, which was shocking given the small frame. He seems ready for a bigger role and had a great SB too. IDK, I feel Dan Morgan was dead set on not going into this season without more DL depth and its there. The real deal is this, nearly all FA take one year to "adjust". I think turk is trying too hard and causing injuries as a result for his contract. Dbrown called turk "strong as hell" and I know for a fact Dbrowns has insane core and strength numbers. They lift together with the 50 LB difference...... you always lift with a guy who's similar in strength cause you can leave on the 8 wheels, let the other guy lift while you rest and go after him.  I do wish he had a better beginning to his panther career, 3 games for him to do so and it would cover up the low points if he made a few plays.... Again it felt like they almost had to make move/spend $$$ and Morgan was going to have DL depth this season no matter what...My best guess.
