Who’s ready to hand Burns four-year, $112.01 million contract or higher contract

Imagine having multiple early day picks where we could get not only one DE to replace Burns but another DT/DE as well. Both on rookie contracts. That is how you build a super bowl winning team and ensures you aren't over paying for talent for a 5-6 win team. Think about it. Burns just had 12.5 sacks and we still miss the playoffs and barely churned out 7 wins. Our run defense AND pass rush is still a problem.

Now we are about to commit a large % of cap space to a guy where it doesn't matter if he has a good or bad year stats wise. His IMPACT on each game is what matters and Burns impact on a play to play basis is so God awfully low compared to other top DEs in the game.

Burns is NOT someone you build your defense around. He's a luxury addition for a team on the cusp. That is not the Carolina Panthers. Signing him to a multi year extension at the $$ it will cost is 100% not the move to make. Best bet is trade him for w.e day 2/3 picks you can get come draft time

Well I don’t know what letting reddick walk has to do with it; they weren’t a good match together, burns was cheaper, etc

you also can’t let passing on the trade influence the decision on contract moving forward. That’s in the past. He’s either worth a contract or he’s not.

They were a good match and Reddick was better.

Lol you guys kill me. He has improved every year and is a pro bowl type of player and is extremely young. This is the exact type of player that you want to retain as a core piece of your team. He has 38 sacks in his first 4 seasons (barely playing year 1) is a team captain, pro bowl player and is 24 years old. He will get better and better in his second contract. You pay for future production and we will get plenty of production from 25 year plus Burns

2 X Pro bowl already and he is 24.  You sign him to a big deal

Not sure we have the money to resign him, Foreman, and Bozeman.

We have 1 million in cap space. Say there is a 7 million increase that puts us at 8 million. We cut Shaq, Zane, Elflein, that puts us around 30 million.

Restructure Donte, Woods, Thomas gives you about another 9 million so 39 million.

Need about 11 million to cover draft picks. Which puts us at 28 million.

Bozeman’s market value is between 15-17 million per year.

Burns value is going to be around 20 million per year but you could add it after his tag year which is 16 million hit this year which leaves puts us in the negative.

D’Onta is another 3-5 million per year and we still have other positions to fill.

Or we can trade him, gain draft capital, and free up 16 million in cap room.

This reminds me of all the "no motor" bullshit you guys scrounged up (the couple still around anyways) when first ballot hall of famer Peppers was here and you all scared him off. Then you had 15 years of our top DE being "checks notes" a coke addicted felon that's out of the league and pretended like everything was all good when Peppers came back.

Fact of the matter is, Burns would be a fuging beast on a better team and the whiners would cry when it predictably happens and he takes his place in the top 3 of the league when he actually has a good team that lets him actually take pass-rushing snaps during the game. Dude has never had a team to play with a lead in his career and still produced year after year only getting better. Its hilarious how bad of a take this is.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
