No, but the same can be said currently for a 4/3.

We will need a nose, and a 5 tech, as well as another pass rusher.

YGM may be able to play, but he's not shown enough yet to be a starter.  Smith, if he can play, could be that guy, or he may be able to hold the middle.  Not sure if he's good, or just a good athlete yet.

Need one more safety, and some depth for the line.  Burns could absolutely eat in a 3/4.

We can make it work. Burns and Luvu on the edges with Derrick Brown as a 5-tech. We'd need to find another 5-tech and a nose tackle but that can be done in free agency.

Just having Burns play edge in this scheme is going to be worth it, IMO. And don't underestimate Frankie Luvu either.

As you note, the best use of Brown in this defense is probably not on the nose.  That being said, he lined up on the nose plenty against SEC competition while at Auburn (the DC moved him all along the DL for match-ups and unpredictability) and played the position at a high level, so he has the ability and (college) experience if needed.

Yeah, I could see him playing either and he gives us that versatility regardless. But he's probably better suited as a 5-tech as his base position. Not a bad problem to have, figuring out where to put a talented player.

3-4/4-3 rarely happens. 3-4 DB sets matter more and more, and most defense just use designated packages with heavy lineman when they want to stop the run.

In that regard, I do think we need either an established NT or an UT type of guy so we can have DB do the opposite. I like our depth otherwise, solid rotational guys.

Honestly, I feel like we have a lot of "Batmans" on defense but no Robins to compliment them atm. Dontes questionable when he returns after his injury and the edge across from BB is well noted.

One of Barno and Haynes will ball out this season

I think both will.......per dollar wise, Id take haynes over whatever 100+ burn contract will get....haynes is on the same level for run D and just a couple levels below. High effort player.

Luvu should be demon form hell as well......... need about 7 games before we will know how this works. Panthers got some 3-4 sleepers.....

Current personnel leans to a 3-5-3

Two 4 tech and a 0 tech on DL. Brown - McCall - Ioanidis. Likely upgrade at NT in draft. DE too if Jalen Carter falls to 9.

Burns and Barno at Edge LB with Shaq, Luvu, and Chinn at ILBs. Shaq and Chinn would rotate out to SS positions post snap when not playing in the box.

Horn, Franklin, Henderson as DBs.

To play a traditional 34, 2 ILBs needed with Shaq bumping out to SS and Chinn staying at FS. Drafting Sewell and Campbell for ILB would be an easy fix. The versatility of Shaq and Chinn would allow this 34 defense 2 joker safeties that can line up and fill anywhere on the field rather than a traditional 34 SS/FS.

    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
