Ian Rapoport: Panthers likely to have interest in Jimmy Garoppolo

You are really going to be disappointed when the Panthers sign Jimmy G to start, Sam Darnold to backup and draft Will Levis to develop.

Hmmm! That might not be ideal but I can think of worse arrangements.

Even if the Panthers draft a QB they will still need another one to bridge until he is ready to start and it's not like there are numerous QB's out there that could fill that slot.

They will indeed have to sign a vet to keep the seat warm for whatever rookie they will be grooming.  They will not just throw the kid out there game one.  None of the prospects are ready for that.

Hmm. Seems like Klein may know something. Interesting.
If it is Darnold I expect people to freak out. If it is Jimmy G I expect some people to freak out.
Darnold or any other QB not names Jimmy = Backup for rookie who can start year one.
Jimmy G = Bridge for rookie who will get a red shirt year.

Guess we gotta hope that Reich is the QB whisperer people think he is and he can develop a QB with the highest floor but lowest ceiling into a franchise QB, or at least a competent starter.

Hypothetically, even Young or Stroud? If it is either of those I’d expect them to start sometime next year unless the team over performs and taking out the current QB doesn’t make sense because he has the hot hand.

They're estimating Jimmy G @ around $8M per after coming off a $7M year in '22.

A guy that is more ready like Stroud or Young would probably only need a year of Jimmy G here. Someone like AR, Levis or Hooker might not be ready until the midpoint of '24.

I would prefer Brissett, Minshew or Rush.

    • Aggressive runner, hits the hole fast, and runs angry.  Just a few yards shy of the single game record for the team.  Absolutely phenomenal performance.  If the gameplan hadn't become weirdly pass heavy for the 3rd and first half of the 4th quarters he might have been flirting with 300.
    • I felt that way before the season started, but I'm sorry, he's already proven he isn't that guy, I don't need to learn anything more about him. He threw the ball 30 times today and could only throw for 198 yards, which was his 2nd best yardage game this year, he's just not the guy. Which means this season has already moved onto the 2nd most important thing going into this season after evaluating Bryce, and that's developing our best young players. You don't do that by only throwing 8 of your 30 passes to your best player who is still only a rookie.  Pepper him with targets and help develop him so he's ready to take a huge leap next year when we get a real HC and QB to get him the ball.
    • Every win comes from a non-sustainable source.  As CRA mentioned, Penix absolutely imploding against ATL, and then today, defense finally clicked and looked the best they’ve looked in a long time (and still have up 24 points lol) and Rico ran for 200+ yards.  We’re not going to get that every week, especially against good teams, which neither Miami or ATL are.  Both MIA and ATL are bad teams and Bryce still couldn’t get it together.  The defense (and team) had to overcome 14 points because of his turnovers again.  That was not even an average QB performance.  We are winning in spite of him.
