We are in the “everyone is lying” zone of pre-draft

Just figured I’d share this bit if info, long time off-season guru huddle vet here. This happens every year before the draft, just assume everyone is lying, because they probably are.

recent example of this is the “Stroud isn’t coachable” narrative that just came out. Willing to bet my pay check this is some team trying to get him to fall if Carolina doesn’t pick him.

The lie zone usually starts at the combine, and progressively increases till the draft. It’s peaking right now with it being right at 2 weeks out.

believe nothing you hear, and nothing happens till it happens.

Yeah obviously bro but also just like every year you'll still have the same people going crazy about it, that's why it happens. Because the drama sells. It's like a soap opera for dudes and the NFL and media make a killing off of it.

I hear you, and I mostly agree but at the same time…everything out there isn’t a “smokescreen” either. I’ve heard that word more times then I’ll probably ever need to up to this point lol.

It ultimately comes down to the reporters saying the information and their reliability, imo. I believe the Travon Walker #1 pick murmurs started around this time last year and everybody called it a smokescreen then too.

I think in our case specifically there’s less reason to go out of our way and ‘smokescreen’ because we don’t really have anybody to deceive at #1. It just feels like a case of national media and the murmurs in local media converging.

Right around the same time...well done Chris Maier:

Quote

Gabbert may throw the best 20 yard "in" route that I've seen on tape in quite some time. He's got an elite sense of timing when attacking zone coverages and is an unquestioned leader.

Let's also not forget, many of today's top offenses are incorporating many elements of the spread.

To tie up the ends on Gabbert's body of work, I believe he absolutely is the only QB worthy of a top-10 pick in this draft class, and he is by far the best pro prospect at the position.

This is a player that can start day one and manage an offense. It would be a mere impossibility for a player of this caliber, in today's NFL, to fall out of the top five selections.

"It's like a soap opera for dudes." Sounds familiar

    • There's a lot of guys with all the tools you look for that could be in 2025.  Thing is, their in-game ability to take command of an offense has only shown in flashes. And they have their flaws. Carson Beck 6'4 220, above avg to great arm strength, great size, another UGA product or more? Shedeur Sanders 6'2 215, above avg arm, playmaker.. is a diva presence a legit issue? Drew Allar 6'5 240 lively, monster arm - outstanding measurables and tools.  Stuck in a bad offense/can he show more in big moments? Quinn Ewers 6'2 205, above avg arm strength, showed some iffiness - big year ahead Jalen Milroe 6'2 220, dual threat, great arm ... can he pull it together this year? Cameron Ward 6'2 225, great arm, pocket presence, can be too aggressive but has a lot to love
