I like this signing, very much similiar to the bruce irving signing we had a few years back. In this case we have an extremely athletic player who still has young legs.

Bruce Irvin is a great comparison. And if Jones plays as well as Irving did in his one year here, it will be a win-win

I think behind RB, LB is the position that has gone from glitz to gutter quicker than any other. the reason is the number of high speed collisions and how quickly it takes miles off. there's no such thing as a franchise middle linebacker anymore. new names are at the top of the league in tackles on a yearly basis. guys you've never heard of in a lot of cases. there was a time not so long ago the league leading tacklers were considered the best defensive players in the game. it's just so weird how quickly that changed. people see a guy like this coming off double digit missed games at 28 and wonder if he can still play. it's wild. that would have been relatively young for a linebacker in the early 2000's.

This dude was a stud early in his career. This damn game takes a toll on you. A big part of it is staying healthy and a lot of that just comes down to sheer luck. Luck of genetics with some people just being naturally more durable than others and luck of the draw on the field. All you can really do to impact your odds is staying in shape and playing with proper technique. The rest just comes down to sheer luck.

I have to wonder if guys like Deion Jones and Deone Bucannon played a role in us not wanting Chinn at LB long-term? Both of those guys were studs early on and both are similarly sized to Chinn and similar as players. Basically big safeties/small LBs both in stature and in playing style. The physical rigors of playing LB at that size definitely took their toll on Jones and Bucannon.

Evero runs a lot of looks with 3 safeties which means Chinn, Bell, and Woods.

I think we are going to see Luvu at Edge more than ILB tbh they just aren’t advertising it.

What I'm thinking as well. Having Chinn + Luvu on the field is going to allow the defense so much more flexibility. Luvu can be playing off-ball or rushing the passer. Chinn can line up at safety, nickel, or LB.

Those two I think are going to be vital to Evero's scheme.

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
