Did the panthers lose on the CMC trade?

People have selective memory man. Mccafrey was injured often 2 seasons in a row before he got traded and I believe he was the highest paid rb in the league on a sorry ass team. That was an unsustainable situation imo on a team that should have been rebuilding when Rhule got here.

Keeping him wouldn't have magically made us into a perennial playoff contender. He set the league on fire in 2018 and 2019 and where did that get us???

Hes making an already good team into a better team with the 49ers.

I didn't disagree with the trade but what we did with the picks from the trade was what mattered. Which Fitterer of course squandered. Which makes it a poo trade.

Cmc woudlve been wasting away on our team and he's thriving on a much better team. Even if we did somehow finally turn it around at some point he likely would have been on the downswing of his career age wise imo.

He was injured a lot

Most huddlers agreed with the move at the time

We would likely still be a bad team if he was here. Unless its a QB, one player doesn't make that much of a difference.

People forget how good  he was in 2018 and 2019 on the panthers and we didn't do jack poo on either season. Qb and coaching and drafting in general trump one singular RB

That’s irrelevant. I can live with him not wanting to play here. Hell, I don’t blame him. The point we are making is that the trade was terrible for the Panthers. How he didn’t fetch a first round pick is mind boggling. A better GM could have received fair compensation for the best RB in the league.

Yeah but 2018 was flushed down the toilet because TJ Watt is a scumb bag POS and targeted Cams shoulder.

2019 was Cams freak lis franc injury. But if it was at his 2020 NE form on the 2019 Panthers we probably would have had a successful season.

CMC and Wilks in the SB. We have the worst record in the NFL and our #1 pick goes to Chicago.

What you think we won the trade?

I was good with Wilks, Purdy, CMC, Jahmyr Gibbs, Garrett Wilson, DJ Moore, Adam Thielen, Jake Ferguson, Michael Mayer, Dawand Jones, Jamaree Salyer, Bradley Bozeman, Zach Tom & Taylor Moton over the last 2 seasons.

What do I know... Investing heavily in Reich, Bryce, Ekwonu & leveraging the team on Hubbard, Sanders, Thomas, Tremble & Mingo with no 1st round pick in 2024 was definitely the way to go.

it’s not CMC or the trade, it’s the bigger picture that’s depressing. CMC would’ve just wasted away here whether traded or not, he’s simply a detail

the bigger picture is this franchise having no clue how to use/capitalize on generational talent from all angles - cant develop them, cant scheme around them, can’t coach them and can’t win with them, cant adapt to the modern day football with them, hell I don’t think we can even train/condition them properly with all his injuries…its fuging pathetic

CMC was interviewed after the trade and said he was surprised and upset. Here’s one article:

Let’s be honest, with what we know about Fitterer pretty much fuging up every move he made, it makes way more sense that he thought it would be a good trade for us.

Panthers weren't winning poo with CMC either. It's not the fact that they traded CMC, its that they did dumb poo with what they got out of it.

This. Nobody would be crying about that trade if we'd actually made something of the assets. But essentially giving away CMC for nothing stings.

Regardless of CMC being here or not...

We didn't get ideal value and we used the picks gained terribly.  We lost.

We traded the best playmaker in the league for Jonathan Mingo, DJ Johnson, Chandler Zavala and a 2024 5th rounder.

There are reasons Fitterer isn’t here anymore and that’s one.

CMC was shocked and hurt by the trade. Did we lose the trade? A better question is have we won at anything in years? Losing CMC makes it easy to bottom out and start landing #1 overall picks to select QBs. We lost our 2024 pick, but we likely will have the 2025 #1 overall pick unless a miracle turnaround happens. CMC would elevate us to 4 or 5 wins by dragging the offense down the field like a plow horse, and against bad teams that is sometimes enough for a win.

With no CMC we have hit rock bottom, and it is time for the NFL reward program to kick into effect. We pile up losses and look at the top couple of QBs in the draft. On the other hand, if Young becomes good then we build around him. Even if Young pans out in the long run, CMC would be an aging and extremely expensive RB whose body would be completely wrecked from being Mr. Everything here.

    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
