The odds of a 2nd rounder to develop into a starter is 33%. A high 2nd is more like 40%.

The odds of a 3rd drops to 16%.

The math doesn’t favor those trades.

Curious to know where you are getting those numbers from?  Have always been interested in the real numbers behind drafting.

We have a lot of holes on the roster and the 2 positions that seem to have the most success in the 2nd are OL, specifically IOL, and LB. We've taken care of 2 of those IOL positions in FA with C still being a pressing need. BY, or whoever is passing the ball if we have a real competition in camp, needs someone to catch the damn ball.

Some browns fan crunched the numbers on 20 years of draft data. NFL wide…not browns specific.

I’ve seen it broken down by position too. Some positions have higher success rates than others.

This is the only source I can find right now.

1st round - about 50% of players drafted in the 1st round developed into solid NFL starters.

2nd round - about 33% of players drafted in the 2nd round developed into solid NFL starter. From here, it dropped by 50% per round.

3rd round - about 16%.

4th round - about 8%.

5th round - about 4-5%.

6th round - about 2%.

7th round - about 1-2%.

Tom Brady defied the odds lol

Where are you getting this? I've looked over information that seems to be always dated (I guess because the sample rate has to be over time), and 33 percent seems extremely low from what I've read.

carolina doesnt draft well, they need more shots to try and hit on something

In fairness, Fitterer and Hurney dont draft well, gonna see what morgan does and hope its better than what weve had.  I think itll be fine as long as tepper keeps his dick fingers out of the situation.

    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
    • Woukd be a great addition You know the issues from my prespective, 2 things the Panthers must do 1. Edge or pass rushers or 2 oline or 3 oline or as Andy Reid says, when in doubt, draft a lineman it is time   That oline is troubling plus a small person at QB  they   1. Can do a lot better than mayes at center, 2. and lewis has had injuries all season. 3. Moton should not have  been resigned long term, 4. corbett is a shadow and will probably be released  5 and Christianson coming off Achilles   6 and the kicker, would be Ickey’s contract if they decide to keep him INMO rookie and contracts will be needed to offset all that
