How do we feel about Canales

He got the HC role 1-2 years too early, but that is what you have to do when a team is as bad as ours. That said, I like him benching Young, not being afraid playing young guys, some really good playcalling (ups and downs are expected for a young coach).

I think he can become a good one, he seems smart, he’s a strong communicator etc. he just needs some time to settle in and gain experience, as well as updating the roster to fit what he’s looking for.

It’s going to be hard to assess him this year with so many injuries, going to have to give him a couple years to find out. Definitely didn’t like his play calling last week. I think you gotta give the guy a shot. It’s gonna be on the job training though.

He is an offensive coach/QB guru…

I think the D can suck, we lose games we should still be able to judge him.  AT missing games shouldn’t matter at all IMO.

if all that works is Dalton, Dionte and Chubba….we should let Tepper do Tepper things IMO

So far meh. He isn't a bad playcaller and he isn't good. His play designs can be effective and at other times it's a deadend play that should be scrapped. He still comes off to me as a decent OC who would do better with a HC that makes him go agaisnt his usual more often.

As a HC he looks really inexperienced. I loved Byce being sat but I have no confirmation of the actual details. I think hebcould also do better with a better GM vs his friend. He just comes of as a new guy that needs an old hand to know when to say no or change it up to me.

He's not taking the reigns of the whole team. He's got tunnel vision for the offense.

You look at a team like the Texans with Ryans and DeMeco's personality stamp is all over the roster on both sides of the ball.

I do not see anything like that on this Panthers team. In fact in a lot of ways particularly developmentally there is nothing whatsoever that sets this coaching staff apart from any of the others we've shitcanned the last few years.

So far his biggest value to me was he got Bryce benched so we could see something somewhat resembling NFL offensive football. For Tepper it seems like if he can't fix Bryce Young and if he isn't a play calling genius he's a bit expendable. I'd give him another year with his own QB to be fair

Give DC at least 5 years with us

We need stability in the coaching ranks

agree, but that only works if you actually got a solid HC

5 years is also an eternity in todays NFL.  You got to earn those years at the same time

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
    • my understanding is a big time throw, could be a 5-10 yard slant to Adam Thielen given AT isn't going to separate.
