Teams tend to overdraft in the top five spots. This will give us the best player available to not $h!t the bed.

According to historical huddle pre draft math calculations, the top 20 best guys will be gone by the time we pick at 8.

Truth is, any one of a DT, Edge, WR, LB, S or CB with the 8th pick should infuse talent and upgrade the roster.

Hell yeah the win was worth it!! Culture-building and confidence-building for our young QB. Great day!!

I think it's also HOW this win occurred mattered a lot. Having a 5 TD game by Bryce, winning in OT, and winning on the road (which panthers haven't done in a while) matter more than 2 draft spots. It'd be different if it was just a field goals game and a low scoring game with Bryce looking poorly, then I'd had wish that we would lose instead.

Top pass rusher available.

Most likely, but if T-Mac is there, that would be had to pass him up.  There's no elite pass rushers in this draft, IMO.  Graham would be nice too. It's just hard to draft an interior DL top 10.  I don't know if you remember the utter meltdown on the Huddle when we took Brown, even though I was thrilled.

A couple spots isn't that bad. The draft is weird anyway, sometimes you "miss out" on the guy you really want - who ends up being a bust - and have to "settle" for a guy that ends up being a superstar.

Can't really say right now how much (if at all) this will change things for the Panthers, I'm not really worried about it either way. Most important thing is to draft the right players, regardless of where you pick.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
