Legette 18th ranked 1st rounder

Players are always at different stages of development when they get drafted.  It was known that McConkey was more NFL ready at the time.  But you draft on potential most of the time.  The expectation is that Legette needs time but will be better later.  Might be another year or 2 before that is true.

But how about another perspective - he is much better than Mingo, TMJ, Samuel in their rookie years.  So at least we are trending the right way.

I don't think he is nearly as bad as many huddles want to make him out to be

This. I didn't want him in the draft but he honestly showed quite a bit more promise thank I expected. I wanted McConkey and still think he should've been the pick but Legette has a chance to develop into something. We'll see what happens.

I think the only real difference in KB and XL's rookie seasons.....was KB got more targets.

His season is actually remarkably similar to Funchess's rookie season.  Except Funchess got a good bit less targets/opportunity (only started 5 games).  I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, I wasn't as down on Funchess as a lot of people here and Funchess actually progressed to have a pretty good season with us in his first year as a full-time starter (840 yards, 8 TDs).  Obviously we would hope for more given Legette's ceiling, but I still wouldn't hate it if he could consistently give us that kind of production.

He can run good routes. He can get open. But he needs to work on his hands. Some of the catches he made this year were routine catches that for some reason he makes look like circus catches. You see Bryce favoring Thielen in the highlights when both are open, or sometimes even when AT isn't open. I think it's fair to say even Bryce is questioning his reliability, and that's going to hamper his career if he doesn't tighten up that aspect of his game.

XL is miles away from a "bust" conversation, but the fact is down the stretch he was outplayed by and trusted less than the UDFA WR on the roster.

Legette was always open. He needs to work on his hands, but we have seen this before. You have a guy come in with lingering injuries from college, gets surgeries, NFL rehab and break out. Also, finished products rarely come out of college. Everyone has something to work on as they become pros. So to the people definitively stating his ceiling, shut the fook up! AJ Brown couldn't catch a cold and had trouble with separation. Tyreek Hill had a limited route tree. All the other guys this year Nabors, Thomas, Ladd, none of them can block like XL and that is something they will have to work on to be better. Cut it out.

    • So happy that LaMelo got the layup to go and *won* the game. How happy he was after the game, that's what a young dude like him needs to keep it going and keep the belief going. If we lose, LaMelo gets blamed, and he's got an offseason to be in his head and hear the noise like the last few years. The season might still have an ugly ending, but weirdly feels like last night was HUGE for this team moving forward.
    • My thoughts on Carolina's post-season run: Obviously, the season began with a below average Freddie Andersen and everyone hoping Kochetkov would pick up the slack, until he got hurt. Enter Brandon Bussi who had a made-for-TV movie type run until the end of the season, when he came crashing back to earth, his save % drops under .900 and the team needs to score 5-6 goals to win games. Freddie has shown signs of a resurgence and Bussi looked pretty good the last 2 games of the season, but both sample sizes are small and questions abound for all 3 goalies. The physicality of playoff hockey will take its toll. Save for a few players, the Canes best players are small, their top 2 lines are small and there's no getting around that. The only way to protect the size disadvantage is a strong forecheck. Allowing opposing teams to establish the offensive zone and create board battles with smaller players will hurt Carolina. The Stankoven line could be a difference-maker. If they continue to play well against lower defensive pairs, it only adds to the depth of the team.  The Aho line had stretches of absenteeism during the season. The Canes cannot afford to have them dry up offensively and leave the scoring to Ehlers and the Stankoven line. If they aren't performing well, teams will simply roll their best lines out on the Canes best playing lines.  If the Canes can get by Ottawa and get some help from Boston against Buffalo, I think they have a legit shot to make the finals. Make no mistake, I think their toughest challenges are Ottawa and Buffalo in the East.
