I would trade for Sam Darnold before drafting Mac Jones... Just my opinion..

Depends on what the Jets want for Darnold. 3rd or lower, sure sign me up, second no thanks, 1st lols. My fear with Darnold is he is broken like David Carr. Otherwise, yeah Jones v Darnold is a push and Darnold should be cheaper.

Report is that the Jets aren’t stuck on a 1st for Darnold.

Trade a 2nd or 3rd for Darnold. Keep the 1st or move back and acquire picks.

Stop getting hung up on the pro days. No reason to trade years worth of capital for a top 4 pick. Keep the capital. Trade for Darnold. Build the defense and the OL. Go win....that’s the formula.

I'm leaning this way. I think Darnold could be a good starter.  While I think he would be a decent QB for any team, I think his skillset would be great in this type of offense. My only question is where his confidence is at.  Is he a guy that can resurrect his career or his he in David Carr land? I'd be willing to gamble a second or third to see.

I don’t think Darnold has played well enough to think he could be your franchise QB however there are plenty of QBs who weren’t that good for their first 3-5 years and then became good QBs. Drew Brees wasn’t good his first few years. Most recently Ryan Tannehill. Alex Smith took years to develop. Hell honestly I would rather have Alex smith than Teddy.

so maybe Darnald can end up being a good QB with a different team. Maybe not. His YPA seems to be pretty low and that kinda bothers me though.

On Dan Patrick he just said that we are interested in Darnold. Said that it could very well be the move if we decide/can't move up in the draft. He said the Jets were looking for a second round pick but would probably settle for a third. He's been right on several things recently related to NFL QBs.

I think any move for Darnold will be made after the draft.  If we land a QB than we won't pursue Darnold.

I'm not sure about that - the Jets will surely want an instant return on him if they're trading him.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a Draft day trade - we pick who we want / trade down in the first / second round and, if we don't get the QB we like, we pick up the phone to the Jets for Darnold in the third round.

I think he has potential, but he's in the last year of his rookie contract so he QUICKLY becomes very expensive. You only have a year to work out whether he's the guy or not.

If Matt Rhule thinks he is the guy.. I’m all for it ... other then that don’t waste resources on Him if he aint the guy just move on till we find him ... I agree Sam was not in a position to succeed.. I think he will be seeing shadows for awhile even if he had a good oline .. might take a year or 2 to build his confidence up .. we don’t have the time or the oline ..

    • Im not angry. Im disappointed. I want to win. Anyone who has watched Bryce play the last 3 years and thinks that this team has in any way seriously addressed the glaring deficiencies in our QB room is deluding themselves. It's been explained ad nauseum how our FO has protected Bryce from feeling even slightly challenged or pressured. A GM without an interfering owner would have brought in another QB to at least give the team a better chance at winning. We just gave an extension to a QB that only got 3k yards on the last play of his 16th game of the year. Indy admitted AR wasn't good enough by bringing in Jones to compete for the starting role. Tennessee drafted Ward to replace Levis. Stroud hasn't repeated his 1st year and Mills' performance was decent when he filled in after Stroud's injury and some were calling for him to remain starter. His future there is still in question even with a 5th year. We should have done the same, especially given that Bryce was benched.  Bringing in Grier is just another glaring billboard pronouncing the obvious. Dave Tepper still has his hands in the daily operations of this team. He controls the QB room because Bryce was his pick. Until Tepper finally admits that Bryce has barely lived up to the standards of a NFL Qb, we're going to spend our days reminiscing of when we were mediocre and finished 9-7.  It's just discouraging. We'll address every position on the field except the one with a glaringly obvious shortcoming. I had hoped Tepper really had backed off. Bryce's 5th year, Dalton's 2 year contract then trade, Kenny Pickett, Will Grier, Jack Plummer, and  Hendon Hooker say otherwise. It already feels like it's going to be a hard year of Panthers football to watch.
