Cam set to start against Washington

For his part I thought PJ played well. As much as we kicked Arizona's butt people forget they were 8-1 and their defense was only giving up right at 18 points a game. Does PJ need to.protect the ball better? Of course but this was his second start. I wouldnt be surprised if they dont platoon PJ and Cam to save a little Cam like we do with CMC. While Cam isnt a RB he surely takes a bunch of hits. I could see using them both based on who has the hot hand. That might be a way to extend Cam even if it is only 8 games.

I mean, if PJ was going to implode the team in a Sam like manner....well, the opporunity was there.   Yet, the O kept putting Cam on the goaline for the glory.  Even Cam referenced the reality of that.

PJ is a backup QB that has done his job twice for us.  He doesn't suck if you acknowledge the job he actually has.  He is a backup QB.  He looks the part.

Listen, people are gonna dislike PJ walker regardless. Truth is PJ walker helped win this game, but cam is getting the credit. I get it, its cam, the emotion. But there is no use in trying to explain PJ walker to these people.

I like PJ but he is not starting QB worthy, and I personally don't think he'll ever be.

CMC had 10 Catches, nearly every pass was quick and decisive to make it as easy as possible for PJ and it seemed very vanilla, the rushing game really led the way. I would love to believe we can see that on a regular basis but the sooner cam is up to speed the better I believe

Right but against NE, Sam moved the ball a few times before his turnovers, too. But no Cam to fall back on... Same is true in most non NYG weeks (just look at ATL).  The issue has been the red zone and decision making where Darnold has been craaaappp in weeks.

PJ definitely is more decisive. For better or worse. And AZ was much worse at bottling the run vs NE (maybe this is an OL and Cam difference too.  Maybe they did fear PJ more).

Cam did credit CMAC for getting him to the goal line... He really did. That statement isnt a knock on PJ btw. CMAC is just really good.

Sam didn’t move the ball at all vs NE.
1, 6, 12, 3, 3, 5.  That is the yardage of every Panther drive in the first half.

2nd half

4 , INT, INT, INT.

I still don’t think there’s been a solid argument for Cam not getting 100% of the snaps if he’s physically ready.

Save Joe Brady calling a play that Cam doesn’t have down yet there is no reason why he should come off the field.

I stated in another thread that you either believe that Cam can make all the throws that P.J. made this past week which ultimately lends credence to Cam getting all the snaps or you believe that P.J. will throw a better ball than Cam right now.

They may script 30 or so plays to begin with and then give Cam a list of additional plays that they want him to know for certain situations… it’s not like he needs to learn the whole playbook this week.

Ultimately it should come down to who gives you the best chance to win and Cam can simply do things that P.J. can’t.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
