How does a team just keep getting worse and worse?

This defense just got run over.  They could not stop or cover anything. And the offense.....

How do these guys just keep getting worse?

The only thing about this team that seems to have improved is the kicking game.  At least they finally found a pk.

Effort is lacking across the board

They lead the league in penalties, the defense now can't stop anyone and the offense can't put together more than one good drive per game.  It's a failure at all levels but definitely on the coaches who are constantly getting beaten and outschemed.

We had another miserable third quarter performance today after being gifted a field goal right before halftime.

Other teams have coaching staffs full of NFL experience. They see on the film what this team can and cannot do. They plan accordingly.

This staff doesn't have that knowledge at the NFL level. It's not just the head coach. All of our most important coaching positions are held by guys who made their name at the college level.

We have two options:

1. Go through the growing pains and hope they figure it out at the NFL level

2. Blow it up and try again with another staff

Right now, the league has them figured out, and they can't figure out other teams.

    • I think Dan pushes more than Fritter did but not enough to shed that title.  I think that's a huge assumption. He was second tier up there. Reid and owners being teir 1. So he actually could have been and still been a good fit. They have done lots of questionable stuff while he was up there but they were winning so it all flew under the radar anyways. Him coming out and being quoted the way he was leads me to think he runs that way plenty.
    • Eh...I don't think Carroll is to blame for Mayer. He is a 3rd year player and has never really been able to elevate above a JAG status across multiple coaches. TBH, I think he is much more Tommy Tremble than he is Brock Bowers. Tremble might even be a good comp.  I am not lobbying to get rid of Tremble but he has basically hit his Ian Thomas wall. He is who he is. If you lined up all 5 years of statistics and tape, you'd be hard pressed to determine which player was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th year guy. He's a decent and rosterable TE. He's also a guy that we should be actively trying to upgrade over.....and we have. Sanders was the first and then we still drafted Evans. Some of this was we run a TE heavy offense and had an even worse TE room but some of it has also been that Tremble is a complimentary/role player. He really shouldn't be getting anywhere near the bulk of snaps.
