Matt Rhule on how he's tried to improve:

"The biggest thing I've tried to do this training camp, these OTA's is really focus on players and my relationship with players. Going golfing and to dinner. Those things helped me have success in the past."

Going golfing and going to dinner have helped him be a better NFL coach

it ain’t gonna work out here for him

Were you at the practices to say Darnold was trash? Panthers picked Sams 5th option before the season started last season. They based picking up his 5th year option Based On his Practice Play only. He was not trash during Camp last season. He was good enough that they decided to pay him 18 Mill for this season. That in itself should tell you he was not trash during camp last year

They picked up his option after the draft on April 30th, 2021.  It had nothing to do with his practice and was more because they didn't draft a QB and were overconfident they could "fix" Darnold.  They have been chasing every QB available since last season ended meaning their opinions have changed.

the expression on his face and tone of his voice when he said it came off as if there may be something that may have a occurred during or post delivery. It wasnt just a newborn, but possibly something worse..... 😟

also no IG or Twittter post from Xavier's social media accounts... normaly that is something you celebrate. I am speculating but im also following the cookie crumbs here.

Hadn't seen anything anywhere other than that she had a baby.

Definitely hope there's not any problems.

They picked up his option before he even practiced iirc.  Wasn't that done in April?

The Reason why The Panthers picked up Darnold 5th year option is because he has always practiced well. Sam is a baller period, and I would be shocked if Corral actually beats him out after camp. Corral will have to depend on Sam playing like trash in the beginning of the season to play. He wont beat out Darnold during Camp.

Darnold did not look good in camp, and the D was on fire.  It was our first indications of what was to come.

He didn't even look that great in camp last year. Nobody with a clue is going to fall for this again. Corral is the future make it work.

I fully agree with this.

On a side note, they took his 5th year option at the deadline to exercise it.  I believe the logic was 20 million for 2 years of a starting QB was a bargain.  They didn't anticipate that Sam would be anywhere as bad as he was...throwing ints on first and second down, more ints than TDs, just overall crappy play.  I expect him to start similar to last year, slightly above average play, and then fall straight into the crapper as he does every year.

Which is just fine.  If Sam can get us to around .500 by weeks 6-9, that's a win. (if Corral shows promise in the preseason and McAdoo thinks he's ready.)

I just do not want to see any potential development of Corral wasted on more of these delusions about Darnold and turning the corner finally. His option is a sunk cost now or later we not owe him anything. We have real promise along the oline now. The locker room cannot endure another season of morale destroying turnovers.

You might not believe in Sam Darnold but he believes in you!!!

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
