2023 Draft Picks

1st: QB: C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young or Will Levis, depends who is our guy

2nd.a: WR: I'm very high on Josh Downs, Jalen Hyatt: a solid second option to pair with DJM for our new young QB and HC.

2nd b: EDGE: time to add defense and pass rushing: Go with Andre Carter II from Army, a sack machine who can play Sam.

3rd: MLB: Jack Campbell from Iowa

4th: RB: I like Blake Corum

5th: DB depth: I'm fan of Riley Moses, from Iowa who can play CB and Safety (probably Safety in NFL). Maybe it's to high so I trade down to have two picks in the 6th and 7th to pick Riley Moses and a new PK (Jake Moody or Harrison Mevis).

I might be an optimist, but I think if we handle the next two offseasons correctly, we can compete for the post season in '25. Rather than have a fire sale and go full rebuild, I think there's a lot of goods in the cupboard. Wilks has already shown that a somewhat competent HC can have these guys playing better.

OFFENSE:

I see the following positions as locked in:

• LT - Ickey
• C - Bozeman (re-sign ASAP)
• RG - Corbett
• RT - Moton
• WR1/2 (wherever you think Moore slots in)
• TE2 - Tremble would be great in a 12 personnel deployment and help the OL as a blocker that can get out in space if needed and haul in some receptions, but not as a TE1. 
• RB2 - I'd like to see an OC that actually brings more balance and rotates RBs throughout the game. No more grinding the RB1 into the ground while capable backs can contribute, but ride the pine. Foreman is young enough, brings a physicality that would compliment a speedy/elusive pass-catching back.

Potential answer long-term, but still questionable: 

• I think TMJ-Laviska can be your complimentary WRs along with Moore. An OC and QB1 that can get them the ball helps too. 
• Christiansen. He's held up decently at LG....not sure if he's "the guy" but alongside a potential elite LT and very strong anchor a C, he could be the weakest of the five OL and still be decent. Plus he's young.

DEFENSE:

I see the following positions as locked in:

• DE1 - Burns
• DT1 - Brown
• LB - Luvu
• CB1 - Horn
• S/LB - Chinn (would prefer we ran two LBs and three S with Chinn being better utilized in a LB/Rover role)
• S - Woods

Potential answer long-term, but still questionable: 

• CB2,CB3 & CB4 - Jackson is good if Horn is the alpha. Jackson as the CB1 is no bueno....plus he's oft-injured. I think one of Henderson/Taylor shakes out. I really like Taylor's complete package as a boundary corner. In an ideal world, all four stick around and mesh well together playing the hot hand.
• LB2 - Brandon Smith. In my ideal scenario, Smith gets a lot of PT this year to get acclimated. We move on from Shaq in '23 and have Luvu/Smith as our primary backers with Chinn supporting as a third LB in different packages. This is probably '24 and beyond TBH.

NEEDS:

Tier 1 Needs: QB1, TE1 , RB1, DE2, DT2

Tier 2 Needs: WR, LB, S

QB for obvious reasons. Ideal choice: Bryce Young Alabama

WR is a need regardless of how Marshall looks.  You simply need playmakers to get to the next level. Ideal Choice: Jordan Addison USC

A DL that can play 1, 3, and 5 tech to compliment Brown & Burns.  YGM has this potential but is showing to be more of a role player/backup type.  Ideal choice: Tyree Wilson Texas Tech

M/OLB (after we let Shaq go)

A balanced TE, I don't mind that Iowa kid Sam LaPorta

I honestly think the supporting cast (especially prior to the CMC trade) was honestly among the best we've ever had. This OL is pretty damn good. The biggest knock is the TE group and that's a legit knock.

this is all fair. i think if they can somehow get back into the first round and add an explosive WR with DJ Moore and TMJ (who i have not given up on yet) and then add a G/C and RB in round 2 and 3, we will be in good shape. Ickey is a stud LT. Brady is a piece and Moton is a good player.

Run a 34 defense and make Burns much better.  Pair him w Anderson and we are good.

QBs are iffy and the one at the top might not be any better than one 15 picks away.  I see no slam dunks

Ran the draft simulator for your preferences by round and tried to be realistic. I could get down with that draft.
