It’s not going to be cheap to retain Derrick Big Baby Brown

It almost doesn’t matter all that much since he’s not going to get the $20M+ the elite (great against run and get sacks) DTs get. He’s got two years left with the 5th year so he’ll be cheap enough the next 3-4 years and by year 5, when the cap hits rise, the salary cap will have jumped and he’ll be reasonable.

Again, this is based on a $15M a year type deal that top 10-12 guys get.

There was an obvious way to capitalize on Burns and it rhymes with laid with the dams

Don't watch "The Quarterback" on Netflix, the segment where the Falcons play us and we lose in OT, It'll make you wish we pulled the trigger on that trade that much more

Burns is a good player with good stats. Great players make plays when their teams need them the most. I've yet to see Burns ever step up and make a play when we needed it most and that little segment that they showed of us losing to the Falcons last year in OT highlights that exact sentiment. He had a chance to step up and make a play that a $100 million dollar DE should make and whiffed. Falcons kick the FG and win the game. Should have traded him.

Brown is really overrated on this board.
Like really? Williams? Brown isn’t even close to that caliber to even spark a thought it’s similar in any way at all.

Last year was the first year he wasn’t worthless and looking lost, and it wasn’t until well in the season either. He looked putrid prior. He has not reached a point where a 10m/yr saavy vet couldn’t easily fill in. His best asset is his youth and potential that’s it.

And now he’ll have a new role, arguably much more important role in the new defense. He will need to step it up big time all season long for a contract that y’all are talking about.

I really hate the idea of players picked high all of a sudden clicking their contract year.

Not saying he can’t be a valuable player but for him to play on Williams level and get a 100m contract in the next two years is not really reality imo…

First off please stop with the really bad player nicknames.

Secondly, please quit assuming that just because a player is a starter on our team that they deserve to reset the marketplace with each upcoming contract.

Let's be honest, we've been a losing team for five years now and everyone whose contract is eligible for coming off of their rookie ones have been a part of that losing effort.

Every single darned one of them. Right now, based on performance, they've earned middle of the pack salary levels at best. Even the mighty Burns.

Let's see them lead the league in something, anything, before we start talking about them breaking the banks.

Yeah, I like Brown but he should not be expecting a contract like that. If he does.....time to move on.

Exactly. Besides, he is going to be a 3-4 defensive lineman now. Their number one job is to take on more blockers and free up the linebackers. He isnt going to have the same stats as a DT in a 4-3.

lol this is an absurd take. he's no Williams but he was an above average starter from day 1 and last year took his game to another level.

Couldn't be happier for Burns and Brown. Both have performed and deserve to be paid. Was nice to have them on their rookie deals, but thankfully we'll have Bryce, Icky, and Mingo on their rookie deals to offset the upcoming negotiations.

yes Williams is the better DT but if Brown carry’s on his disruptive campaign like he did last year (he’s going to feast in this Defense) then the Panthers will be handing this young man a large contract

Theres other options- tag, trade, or offer much less than that.... if they feel hes going to blow up in the the new 3-4, could sign him to a fair deal now. But if he wants that 4yr 96mill, someone else can deal with that. Good thing is young is on a rookie contract for the next 4ish yrs, that allows the panthers to spend else where...
