Even before the Rams trade offer, it was inevitable that decision day was going to come on whether to pay Burns a lot of money or move on.  All the Rams trade offer did was accelerate when D-Day happened.

I've tried to stay out of the discussion about whether he is worth the money or not, because the Panthers made that decision when they turned down the trade offer.  His asking price could be absurd, but otherwise, you can't tell the Rams no and indicate he is a critical piece of the defense (as evidenced by the offer that was turned down), switch schemes to something that everybody has said would be his ideal fit, and then later say he isn't so critical without anything else changing.

I'm all for taking the time to get a glimpse of what we think we know about him as an OLB/Edge in a 3-4, but assuming he doesn't blow chunks, this was always the inevitable outcome.  And if the front office did not see the link when they turned down the Rams' offer, then they are morons.

I don't particularly appreciate Burns speaking of being all-in for the season and then doing a 180.  But, if he shows up tomorrow when the team starts to prepare for Sunday and is out on the field when the game starts, that didn't happen.  He's not some rookie thinking he doesn't need all the prep time he can get.  By now he knows what it takes to be ready on a Sunday.

In my opinion he did show up throughout training camp etc. leading the team. Frank even alluded to how important Burns practice habits and leadership were for the rest of the team. I think Burns feel a bit let down by not having a new contract by now and a holdout seems to be the only option left. So I don’t blame him a bit.  But we also can’t be without him this weekend. Hopefully this will get done tomorrow.

I said it at the time the proposed trade didn't happen for all those assets that we wrote Burns a blank check by telling him we valued him at this impossible compensation package. they gave him the power to write his own deal at that point. I don't know how you can reject a package of that size and then balk at paying when it comes time to do so. You valued the man like a Top 10 player in the game based on what you turned down for him, which was a massive mistake. But now that you've done it, you can't walk away from it or look for a worse package now. It makes you look stupid.

Today's players don't mind losing a paycheck for a couple of weeks.  They don't want to go out there and get injured which will lower their value. 

Sitting out increases the pressure on the FO and ownership, especially if the defense doesn't perform well.

As everyone has alluded to, turning down that Rams trade gave Burns all the leverage.  I don't believe he'll play, it's too risky for him.  He wants that new contract and the guaranteed $$ that comes with it.

He said publicly that we wanted to move in a different direction. I believe it was during the interviews during the Super Bowl. 
 

Two sides to every story, but what he said indicated that at the very least, it wasn’t just his camp making that decision.

A. In a perfect world, all players get paid whatever they want! (it's not a perfect world)

2. In a perfect Panthers world to some Huddlers, Burns get MAD BANK and we make the Playoffs! (probably not happening this season ... and that MAD BANK will cause issues in the near future)

D. In a logical Panthers world to some Huddlers, Burns gets paid fairly and we miss the Playoffs, but the future budget looks great for building Bryce and his team into a dynasty. (It's Bryce's team, not Burns')

 

Which one do you like?

      Just going off the draft sims and he's always sitting around 20 lol. First year in a while where we haven't been thinking about the draft already in late October so haven't really looked into the top 15-20 picks yet. Also the qb class is super weak so he probably will sneak up into 10-15

      I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.

      What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
