Approaching this from the coldheartedly realistic side...

It's not Matt Rhule's job to give Cam Newton a proper sendoff or to make his fans happy. We sh-t all over Ron Rivera for trying to give older players storybook endings, and rightly so.

Rhule's job is to win professional football games, and if benching Cam Newton is the best way to do that, he'd be thoroughly justified in doing so.

That's a perfectly valid argument...

...with one major flaw 😕

Matt Rhule has shown quite clearly that he doesn't really know how to win professional football games, so why should we trust his judgment on this decision anymore than we trust it on others?

Me? I'm no professional but of it were my ass on the line, I'd keep Newton as the starter through the rest of the season.

...

Course, if it were my ass on the line, I'd like to think I wouldn't have hired a college coaching staff to do a professional job 😕

these losses are so unnecessary , that 2 qb system works for the panthers. let pj drive downfield, and cam finishes it off however cam sees fit. but rhule is now scared of upsetting the fans by putting pj back in. they brought cam back because you guys wanted cam back and now that isn't even working.

Matt Rhule and company are incompetent at their jobs and incapable of fielding a competitive team.  Bringing Cam back was a Hail Mary by the Panthers (Tepper most likely) to appease the fans and possibly win a few games late in the season.

So you hate on the MVP quarterback but you defend the loser college coach

make it make sense

I took his post to mean Cam no longer has championship potential, which is about 99.9% accurate at this stage. That’s not hate, that’s reality.
We all know Rhule blows dead bears.

Give Cam the start, put Sam in as #2 QB and just let PJ have an easy day without a uniform.

As to next season, Cam isn't the answer at QB. He would, however, be one of the best possession receivers you could ask for. Just saying the guy has the world record for most one handed catches in a row, has a distinct competitive spirit, you can't teach 6'5" 245 lbs, he knows the route tree (from QB perspective) and he is a monster to bring down when he has the ball.

Could be a great second act for Cam. If Rhule is gone.

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
