Just listened to the Interview he did on WFNZ (Fitterer) yesterday on the Kyle Bailey show.

 

Everything about Fitterer screams business. He even sounded more in touch about how the season went. Even took responsibility. 

 

There are some key points that he touched that shed light on some things. Like the whole 5th year option. Apparently, they had to may 8th to do it and weighed their options. I know, hindsight, I know I know.. Darnold is Ass...But how he explained it made sense AT THE TIME they did it. Basically they wanted to play it safe in CASE Darnold light it up and did what they expected him to do. In theory it makes sense. NO I'm not saying it was smartest thing to do. Just taking a step back, it was what was available to them. Just wish they would have gone a different route.

 

IN the same interview he acknowledged that the O-line needs fixing, there was no mention of Slater, kind of wish there was but the interview was short so I guess it was a time issue, either way he said that will be a focal point moving forward.

 

He was asked about the draft and how they are essentially picking once in the top 100. Was asked about the QB class and he said it was a 'good' class not a 'great' class. This leads me to believe they will not be spending that #6 pick on a QB, but he didn't really take it off the table. He basically said that he wants to make sure they get a player that will change their team at #6 but was open to trading down. Also the thing that concerned me a little was the part when if they could still be in play for the 2nd and 3rd round, basically saying there are ways to still get in those rounds after spending that #6 pick. I don't want this team to mortgage more future draft picks, that's the only thing I don't agree with. Personally I wouldn't mind just taking a player at 6 or seeing if we can get more capital by moving down a couple of spots. But trading away future draft capital to me is not a good recipe for this team right now. 

 

Overall his interview was 1000 times better than Rhule, Fitt is very analytical, precise. He doesn't lay on a huge layer of fecal matter to his words when he speaks like Rhule does. I just hope that internally Tepper grows a pair and tells matt that he is no longer taking care of the personnel side and he will solely focus on the team and coaching side. 

 

The pessimist in me just knows that no matter who Fitt Gets Rhule will not know what to do with him.

  What possible gain was there from giving him that 19M guaranteed. Even if he was Tannehill and signs a 30M/year deal, the first year would have been even less than 19M. So why bet 19M on a scenario that wasn’t likely and had no benefit. Just another cop out.

He's better at making poo like that sound somewhat logical, but he conveniently left out the draft picks he traded away for Darnold. You cannot trade 3 picks away for Darnold and cut him after one 5 win season, or if he plays well be forced into a FA bidding war. I like Fitt better than Rhule but lets not pretend like the Seahawks have done anything remarkable since lucking out on Russel Wilson 9 years ago.

That was true in the past.  Not clear if that is still true going forward.  Tepper may put Rhule on a shorter leash, allowing Fit and Morgan to do their jobs.  We’ll see soon enough…

I’ve been wondering how we could realistically get back into the 2nd or 3rd without trading down or mortgaging the future (a ton)

If we like a guy that will be more day 1 impact than a 4th, then maybe it’s the 2022 4th packaged with a 2023 3rd. Yeah it just keeps taking away future picks but that’s be a way to mid round 3 top-75 pick that may fall/we have pegged as a 2nd rounder type OL.

I mean, if it’s 2 OLs in the top 70ish and we still have our 2023 R1 & 2 then I think that’s the most I’d mortgage with a potential lame duck coach.

Then factor in 1  better FA lineman signing and that’s 3 brand new Ol additions for a 2023 QB to have back him.

      Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.  RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.

      Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.  But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.  Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.  Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet. Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.  Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.  Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.
