Ian Thomas on Sam Darnold: 'He's the Quarterback That We Need'

He sucks.  But he's ours so he's also the answer.  Or he's not the answer  and he doesn't suck.  Or he sucks and so does the coaching staff.  Did I miss something?

Evidently this entire franchise has sucked donkey dick so much.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving fan base.  🤣🤣

Adjusting to the new scheme quickly will be key for Sam Darnold. Patience hasn’t been part of the approach at the quarterback position for the Panthers and Darnold doesn’t have the benefit of experience in a similar offense like Teddy Bridgewater did last year.

“He wants everything to be perfect” is a great sign. All of the great QBs seem like they are perfectionist. Honestly one of the concerns I had about Darnold is the relaxed, laid back, SoCal demeanor he seems to have. If he turns on the competitive, perfectionist attitude during practice and games I’ll feel a lot better.

I think any "relaxed, laid back" attitude he had was quickly obliterated after 3 seasons of HELL over NY.

I think he's tired of losing.

That is likely true. He gets traded from one of the worse franchises to one of the up and coming franchises with a ton more talent. He knows this stop will define his career. If he fails it won't be because he isn't giving his all.

Hellz, half the Huddle feel the same way.

Well if Darnold fails, we will be in a Browns like situation. Remember that time period where they started QB after QB, season after season? Take a look at our post 2017 run of different QB's. It isn't pretty.

6 different QB's to start games and 7 different QB's to attempt passes in a game. This year with Sam will make that 7 and 8(assuming Walker and Grier are the #2 and #3). That definitely doesn't happen to winning teams or functional franchises.

If we fast forward in the future and Darnold fails.....how easy is it going to be to keep guys like DJ and Anderson eventually? It definitely isn't great for their careers to have a new QB every season.

That is the thing that Panthers fans need to be aware of, sometimes it takes a while and a lot of losing to get the next guy at QB. We have had those periods already in our team history, so this shouldn't be foreign to us.

The exact same thing happens if Sam fails as if a qb we drafted fails or we had kept Newton. We'd need to find a good QB.  You can spin it however you will and try to make sound like a unique and complicated situation but the reality is the same.
