I've been doing some critical thinking. It seems that most fans are ready to go back to mediocrity. I include myself in this. Yes what Wilks did was nothing short of amazing. But if you really think about it. He went 6-6.  The guy before the fraud we had at HC was that. Mediocre. It's a reccuring theme it seems. Look at buffalo. Another Rivera tree product is up there and they are a playoffs team loaded with talent with a franchise QB and they.. can't.  Get. Over. The. Hump.  We're seeing it play out. Daboll left and all of a sudden the Bills aren't as good in offense. McDermott is still there but I digress. 

 

Honestly it's time to move on from the same thing that this team does over and over and over again and expects different outcomes. Yeah we'll be a playoffs team, sure it will be a good story to see Wilks that's from Charlotte have success but the writing is on the wall, he comes from that same tree of mediocrity. I for one am tired of that. It's time to go a different direction. No I don't want Payton. Or Dorsey. Steichen is the guy. Sirianni told him to take over and Hurts is basically an MVP candidate all of a sudden. He's the guy.  /Rant over.

You throw any of the guys we’re looking at in at HC after Rhule was fired and I don’t think a lot of them fair better than 6-6 given where the team was at the time.
 

Id rather us not go Wilks/defensive coach and get Rivera era 2.0, and much prefer Steichen, Kafka or Reich, but give credit where it’s due - I don’t think 6-6 is jaw dropping or outstanding, but it’s definitely not mediocre given the situation at the time.

It’s sad that going 6-6, losing all big games, and being embarrassed in others, is the shiny new toy for some Panthers fans. Newsflash, we can do better, and the odds of the right guy being on our roster the entire time are slim to none. Especially considering literally no other team even wants to pick up the phone and call about him.

I dont want Wilks as the coach for the same reasons as you but others also for the sake of Wilks reputation. The owner wants to win now and alot of pressure will be on Wilks when he possibly need more time. Plus I don't like to bring race into it but as a black head coach, opportunities are low. So he needs to go somewhere to get a far opportunity and I strongly feel like he won't get one as Panthers coach.

They've given Allen Prime Cam level weapons outside of Diggs. They have a really good defense and a stud qb on offense without much else. They are the panthers from 2013-2017.  Absolutely on the Shane train and give me a wr opposite of Moore at number 9. Roll with Corral. If he sucks we get maye or Williams and mother fuging profit for 10+ years

Mediocrity isn’t attractive. Everyone wants to win. 
 

People don’t want to be mediocre. You see Wilks as mediocre (which is an opinion), and therefore anyone who wants him as HC finds “mediocrity attractive.”

 

Thats ridiculous. Some see 6-6 as good, in context. Some only see 6-6 and don’t care about context. 
 

It’s just opinions.

 

Literally everyone here wants to win games and Super Bowls. Come on.

I disagree with the Buffalo point. I mean they have been there with a chance three straight years. Plenty of franchise QBs win 0 or 1 super bowl during their career. You want a coach and a roster that can get you there with a chance to win it all. That’s the step we are on now.

If you want opportunities, you don't punt to Tom Brady rather than taking a shot at a play at midfield with a 70% success rate....with your career on the line.

6-6 imo is actually a good result, all things considered. What soured me on Wilks was watching the Pittsburg game, and the second Tampa game. Those were both very winnable games and we were shown up. And the second Tamps game was almost a "win and you're in" type game with nothing to lose. I'm not sure how anyone who watched those games could genuinely want Wilks back.

      It looks like the Bucks and Giannis are headed for a divorce. He says he's ready to play and the Bucks say that he has told them he isn't. It really doesn't matter except that it likely means the end for Giannis in Milwaukee. He's 31 years old, but still an elite producer.  So, as GM, would you go after him this offseason? Remember, the Hornets have two 1st round picks this year and potentially THREE first round picks next year. What would a trade look like?

      I agree with you, if all things are equal--assuming we are on the same page as to what that means.  If a DT and OT are there at 19 and you have them equal, which do you take? The DT would be rotational and get 25 snaps a game or so, and the OT is probably a reserve for most of the season.  What if Walker plays out of his mind and Ickey comes back strong? To me, there are just too many variables at T and Morgan met the needs for 2 starters.  Nothing about that screams lets "go OT in round 1" to me. I could see an Edge or a DT at 19 before I see OT.  I could see a TE or S before an OT--and I (personally) would rather have an OT over DT, Edge, TE, or S--but I do not see the logic.  In fact, CB is a position that resembles OT--who do we have behind our starters and are we happy with Smith-Wade?  A CB would be on the field more than a reserve OT.  How is the Walker at LT situation different than the the Bryce situation? He is basically on a 1-year deal and if he is injured, Forsythe becomes Pickett.  Would you take Simpson in the draft?  Dont get me wrong--I usually agree with you  and I get your point.  I am an OL guru--but I just do not see this particular group of Tackles making us better than Walker.  In addition, I think we can address OT once the Ickey situation clears up.  Short arms, poor run blocking, issues with strength--I am simply not impressed with the OTs.  For clarity, "developmental" refers to players who are still a year or two away from starting.  We are all developmental, but there are prospects who need a season to transition to the pro game. I see 1--maybe 2 OTs who could step into a starting role right now. In college, for example, taking snaps under center requires a different approach than blocking for the shotgun.  There is less to learn if you play a position that does not require much adjustment to transition to the NFL.
